World Cup Match 18: Portugal v Morocco

Day 7 of the FIFA World Cup gets underway with Portugal taking on Morocco at Moscow’s marquee venue, Luzhniki Stadium.

What’s their current form?
Portugal opened their campaign against heavyweight side Spain, but managed to hold their own, thanks to superstar Christiano Ronaldo who bagged a hat trick of goals to help his side to a 3 all draw.

Morocco were their own worst enemies as they succumbed to Iran in their opening game, thanks to an own goal from substitute Aziz Bouhaddouz in the 95th minute.

Portugal: Patricio; Soares, Pepe, Alves, Guerreiro; Silva, Moutinho, Carvalho, Fernandes; Guedes, Ronaldo.
Morocco: Bounou; Hakimi, Benatia, Saiss, Mendyl; El-Ahmadi, Boussoufa; Amrabat, Belhanda, Ziyech; Boutaib.

Any interesting facts I should know?
Iran currently sit atop the Group B table thanks to an own goal. Portugal and Spain need to beat Iran and Morocco now if they are to advance as many expect into the Round of 16.

What should I be betting on?
Ronaldo to score again in a Portugal win.

Wolf’s Prediction

Few words can describe Ronaldo’s performance against Spain but The Wolf will try… Incredible, dominant, historic, impressive and show stopping! Now Morocco must find a way to stop him. They were their own worst enemies in the loss to Iran and now need results in their next two matches. It sets up what will be a very open encounter with Portugal to strike on the counter several times. Morocco had no problem maintaining possession in their opening game with a whopping 68%. They did everything but find the back of the net but The Wolf says they have the enthusiasm to turn things around. Amrabat and Harit were consistently able to get into dangerous positions. They will test Cedric and Guerreiro and The Wolf can see them finding the back of the net – potentially more than once. Both teams have score in Portugal’s last 3 World Cup matches and they have failed to maintain a clean sheet in their last 5 games at the finals. Ronaldo or no Ronaldo, The Wolf can smell an upset.
