Feature Previews

Lucas Pouille v Gael Monfils
Names like Thiem, Kyrgios and Tomic are talked about as the future of men’s tennis but 22 year old Lucas Pouille is making more than a name for himself. He burst onto the scene with a run to the quarter at Wimbledon and could go one better in the Big Apple. He has won 3 consecutive 5 set matches which is a testament to both his stamina and mental strength. Few would know that over the past 12 months Pouille ranks equal first in tiebreak win % with Novak. He is one of the best players on tour under pressure but if there is one concern it has to be the amount of fuel left in the tank. No one has spent more time on court than Pouille and against a big hitter like Gael he will have to do his fair share of running. The Wolf tipped Monfils as one of his roughies for the tournament and won’t be getting off now. He is yet to drop a set and has made some handy tennis players look second rate. The run of Pouille will come to an abrupt end.
Tip: Monfils -5.5 ($1.67)

Novak Djokovic v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
This duo have a long history dating back to the 2008 Australian Open final. On that night it was Djokovic who won his first ever slam. He has since gone on to capture a total of 12 majors while Tsonga has failed to make another slam final. In the two years that followed the Frenchman won 5 of their next 6 encounters but has managed just 1 of the next 15 as Novak has taken complete control of the matchup. Thats not to say that things haven’t been close on occasions. Three meetings ago Tsonga beat Novak in straight sets at the Toronto Masters – a similar surface to this one and in their last meeting Novak needed two tiebrekers to get it done. At the majors Djokovic is 4-1 but only one of those has been in straight sets and two of them have gone the distance with one win a piece. Tsonga has been striping the ball throughout the tournament. He is really going for it on his first serve and The Wolf thinks it is a winning tactic against Novak. There are very few players who possess the power to hit through Novak and Tsonga is one of them. The Wolf has him taking a set but Novak’s defence will prove too strong over the course of 3 or 4 hours on court.
Tip: Over 34.5 games ($1.73)
