US Open: Day 6

best tennis oddsUS Open Day 6

Djokovic got yet another free pass yesterday with Youzhny retiring in the first set while the French pair of Monfils and Tsonga posted comprehensive straight sets wins.

There were two major upsets on Day 5 and both involved Americans. Jack Sock rolled 2014 champion Marin Cilic in straight sets on the back of some super aggressive tennis. Fellow American John Isner was not so luck and fell to Kyle Edmund in four tough sets. Meanwhile Rafa continues to own the night sessions and is yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Here are The Wolf’s winners for Day 6.

Feature Previews

Juan Martin Del Potro v David Ferrer
Ferrer has historically had a good record against Del Potro but The Wolf is willing to slip that 6-3 H2H advantage right under the carpet. The consistency that made Ferrer a top 5 player for almost 5 years in gone. The Spaniard rarely lost against players ranked lower than him but at 34 years of age his ability to cover the court and wear his opponents down has diminished. In the last two months alone he has lost to Benneteau, Donskoy, Mahut, Seppi and Muller. He is yet to register a win over a top 10 player this season and although Del Potro might not be top 10 in the official rankings, on form he is top 5! The 2009 championĀ is yet to drop a set and has really found a his groove over the last few months. We’ll be sticking with him throughout the rest of the year.
Tip: Del Potr0 -5.5 ($1.83)

Nick Kyrgios v Ilya Marchenko
This was supposed to be the all Australian clash between Kyrgios at Tomic but things have not gone according to plan. Despite a niggling hip injury Kyrgios has held up his end of the bargain while it was Tomic, who had the easier draw, that bundled out. Marchenko defeated Tomic’s conqueror in the last round and did so convincingly. Marcjenko will not over power Kyrios but plays a consistent and very smart style of tennis. He will keep his unforced errors to a minimum and when he does manage to get Kyrgios out of position he will close to the net and look for the easy volley. If Kyrgios goes off the boil he will take full advantage. This one is going 4 or 5 sets.
Tip: Over 34.5 games ($1.91)
