US Open Day 10
Day 9 features two compelling quarter-final matchups with Juan Martin Del Potro tackling Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray against Kei Nishikori. The most fascinating quarter is certainly the Del Potro-Wawrinka clash with Del Potro favoured to reach just his second Grand Slam semi since winning at Flushing Meadows back in 2009.
Here are The Wolf’s winners for Day 10.
Juan Martin Del Potro v Stan Wawrinka
Juan Martin Del Potro’s fairytale comeback story continues with a quarter-final matchup against Swiss world No.3 Stan Wawrinka. Del Potro and Wawrinka have met just six times with Del Potro holding a 4-2 edge including the last four meetings. The most recent meeting was in the second round at Wimbledon this year where Del Potro won in four sets. Four of the last five meetings between the two have gone to extra sets and The Wolf fancies another long battle here making the over 41.5 games an outstanding bet. Del Potro has not dropped a set so far this tournament but Wawrinka has found his troubles going to five against Daniel Evans in the third before Ilya Marchenko pinched a set off him in the fourth. Wawrinka is arguably the best under pressure player on the tour and will not leave anything on the court. Big-serving Del Potro and aggressive baseliner Wawrinka should see plenty of momentum swings and a long, thrilling affair.
Tip: Over 41.5 Games ($1.83)
Andy Murray v Kei Nishikori
Second seed Andy Murray has won seven of his last eight clashes with Japanese star Kei Nishikori, including at Rio where he breezed past him 6-1 6-4, but The Wolf doesn’t expect the big-serving Scot to stroll past him this time without a fight. Murray produced a flawless display to dispose of Grigor Dimitrov to win comfortably in straight sets, negating any thoughts that he was suffering from fatigue. And putting to bed the news that he was struggling to sleep. Nishikori saves his best for New York and was of course a 2014 finalist at the US Open beating Novak Djokovic. The Wolf was impressed with the way Nishikori went about beating Ivo Karlovic in the fourth round. His error count was remarkably low despite the blustery conditions and he has the return to trouble Murray. Expect Murray to prevail but confident that the world number six can pinch a set off him.
Tip: Kei Nishikori To Win A Set ($1.75)
