The American hard court swing came to an end with a historic victory by Stan Wawrinka at the US Open. Now a 3 time major winner, he will be joined by fellow top 10 players Milos Raonic and Tomas Berdych at this weeks St Petersburg Open. The tournament has had some big name winners in the past including Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, Gustavo Kuerten and Marat Safin.
It is the first of a string of tournaments that will be played on a very fast indoor surface and we are sure top see some very familiar names feature on the winning trophies in the coming months. Raonic is the defending champion here but is in a tricky part of the draw that includes Berdych and Alexander Zverev. The big names will have to be on guard as several lesser known players in the draw have made it all the way to the finals here including Tipsarevic, Youzhny, Verdasco and Kukushkin.
The Wolf says to look out for several upsets this week!
Alexander Zverev v Karen Khachanov
After a somewhat disappointing American hard court swing The Wolf is ready to get back on board Alexander Zverev. He’s had a much earned rest after a very busy schedule and his game sets up well for the clash against Khachanov. The Russian likes to really wind up and let rip with his ground strokes but will not be afforded that luxury as Zverev rally ball is both powerful and deep. Back a Zverev straight sets win.
Tip: Sets Zverev 2-0 ($2.20)
