Shanghai Masters Preview
The Wolf doesn’t even want to talk about the disgrace that is Nick Kyrgios. If the ATP have any sort of integrity they should suspend him for at least 3 months! It wasn’t the only shock news last night with Nadal and Dimitrov both making early exits.
Now into the 3rd round there are a handful of matches that can go either way. Alexander Zverev looks to continue his rich vein of form against last years finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga while Monfils and Goffin clash with both men chasing a spot at the World Tour Finals. Djokovic, Murray and Wawrinka should be in cruise control while the ball boys and ball girls will be on full alert when Raonic and Sock take the court.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga v Alexander Zverev
The Wolf cannot wait for this one. Zverev faces yet another test against a top 10 player and his time it is against the big hitting Frenchman. Tsonga lost in the final here last season and plays some of his best tennis around this time of the year. He is a previous winner in Paris (last Masters Series event of the season) and Vienna not to mention deep runs in the Tour Finals. Zverev though is absolutely dialed in and it is his return which has The Wolf excited about his future. His two handed backhand will one day be the best on tour and anyone who can break serve as consistently as he does will always put pressure on his opponents. He broke the Isner serve 4 times and backed that up with 3 breaks against Cilic. The Wolf won’t be turning his back on the man that has been money for us in recent months.
Tip: Zverev WIN ($1.91)
Gael Monfils v David Goffin
Goffin backed up his upset win over Del Potro with a comfortable straights sets victory over Paire. Likewise Monfils navigated his way past Anderson but The Wolf can see some fatigue in the Frenchman’s game. Goffin will not give him an inch and although Monfils has an edge in power Goffin is again well over the odds. Monfils has won their two prior encounters but both were tough three setters. There will be very little between them and that makes Goffin with the handicap a great bet.
Tip: Goffin +2.5 ($1.83)
Lucas Pouille v Andy Murray
The French onslaught continues and Pouille is one of four Frenchman in the top 20. One of the keys to his success has been his ability to come up clutch and play his best tennis when it counts. He was won 69.2% of breakers over the last 12 months (6th best on tour) and 70% of deciding sets in matches (9th on tour). It may still be a young career but Pouille has the best tiebreak win percentage of any player in the history of the game. His 69% win rate is along way ahead of second best Pete Sampras at 64.6%. The total is set low considering just how well the Frenchman is playing. He could make things very tricky for Murray.
Tip: Over 19.5 games ($1.83)
Gilles Simon v Stan Wawrinka
We were weary that Wawrinka could come out on fire and he did just that. Now he takes on a man that he has completely over-powered in the past. Stan has won 5 of their 7 meetings and 4 of those wins have come in straight sets. Simoon has the ability to frustrate opponents but when Stan is on nothing and no one can stop him. The biggest problem for Simon is his inability to change the pace of the rally. He will not be able to take the game away from Wawrinka and that leaves him a sitting duck each time they meet.
Tip: Wawrinka -3.5 ($1.73)
