Rome Masters – Quarter Finals

atp tour tips and preview

The streak of Zverev continues and The Wolf says that only one man will be able to stop him this week… Can Rafa and the defending champ set up a mouthwatering final…

Rome Masters Feature Previews

Rafael Nadal v Fabio Fognini
The locals will be hanging off the rafters during this one!!! Fognini has played himself into form and it all comes on the back of the dramatic win over Thiem. On that occasion he was clipping the roses located court-side while hitting backhand returns. Nadal has been known to pepper the backhand and the Italian will be ready for it. Fognini has multiple wins over Nadal on this surface, and as good as Rafa has been this week, The Wolf says Fognini will again be able to trouble him. The key in this matchup is the Fognini backhand. If he can hit it with any sort of consistency he will take at least a set of Nadal.
Best Bet: Over 19.5 games ($2.00)

Pablo Carreno-Busta v Marin Cilic
Cilic leads the H2H 2-0 but The Wolf says don’t let that fool you into thinking that he will run the table here. The pair met at the Australian Open earlier this year with 3 of the 4 sets being decided by a breaker. Clay is a surface which favours Carreno-Busta and as we have seen this week, once the Spaniard gets going on this surface he can quickly take the game away from his opponent. Of the two he is more capable of breaking serve and that makes his value!
Best Bet: Over 22.5 games ($1.85)

Kei Nishikori v Novak Djokovic
Following his win over Ramos-Vinolas, Novak said that he had not felt this good on a tennis court for some time. It was the first time he had won 3 consecutive matches since the Australian Open but The Wolf is not ready to buy into him – not until he beats the likes of Nadal, Zverev or Thiem on this surface. He got past Nishikori in straight sets last week in Madrid but The Wolf believes he will have to play much better to get a repeat of that result. Nishikori put the hammer down against Kohlschreiber and has been breaking serve at will this week – 11 breaks in total. With the Djokovic serve still shaky, The Wolf is tipping an upset.
Best Bet: Nishikori WIN ($2.35)

David Goffin v Alexander Zverev
Zverev continues to blast his way past opponents. He made it 11 wins in a row against Edmund and has now won 22 consecutive sets! The Wolf couldn’t come to terms with the price we were getting for him to win in straight sets yesterday and is shocked that we can get better than $2 tonight! Back the truck up and get on the Zverev bandwagon.
Best Bet: Zverev WIN ($1.50)
