Rome Masters Feature Previews
Rafael Nadal v Damir Dzumhur
Dominic Thiem ended Nadal’s clay court win streak in Madrid and Dzumhur could be on the receiving end as a result. That’s what the initial thought it but The Wolf disagrees. Despite being a 7 time winner here, he has not made it beyond the quarter finals in the last 3 years. Dzumhur also has the advantage of having played a left handed player in his previous match. He targeted the Verdasco backhand with great success and it will help him steer clear of the Rafa forehand in this one. Nadal torched Dzumhur at the Australian Open but The Wolf is adamant that he will be better in this one.
Best Bet: Over 16.5 games ($1.73)
Novak Djokovic v Nikoloz Basilashvili
The Wolf doesn’t want to sound like a broken record but cannot help himself when it comes to Novak. He has won back to back matches just once since the Australian Open and has now lost 6 of his last 10 matches. Edmund was the latest person to beat him and did so by winning almost 40% of points on the Djokovic serve. Basilashvili already has plenty of tennis under his legs this week after coming through the qualifiers and has gone the distance in three consecutive matches. The baseline exchanges will be lengthy and Basilashvili will win his fair share.
Best Bet: Basilashvili +5.5 ($1.85)
Juan Martin Del Potro v Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas was given a virtual pass into the second round following the retirement of Coric and it sets up a clash between two towers. The breakthrough of Tsitsipas has been impressive and he could add another scalp to a growing list. Del Potro went down to Lajovic in Madrid with Tsitsipas beating him earlier this week to enter the main draw here. Breaking serve will not come easy in this one making the Overs the play of the day.
