Monte Carlo Masters – 1st/2nd Round

atp tour tips and preview

It was smooth sailing for the majority of favourites yesterday but The Wolf is expecting a spanner in the works today with several seeded players taking to the clay courts for the first time this year.

Monte Carlo Masters Feature Previews

Andrey Rublev v Dominic Thiem
Rublev got the better of Haase in a nail biter yesterday but The Wolf has him coming up well short against Thiem. Clay is the Austrian’s bead and butter! He went 22-5 on the red dirt in 2017 with a title winning run in Rio, losses in the finals of Barcelona and Madrid (both to Nadal) and semi final runs in Rome and the French open (lost to Djokovic and Nadal). As you can see it takes one of the best, playing at their best to beat him on this surface and Rublev does not fall into that category.
Best Bet: Thiem -4.5 ($2.00)

Jeremy Chardy v Richard Gasquet
The crowd will be torn between the two Frenchman but will be treated to an array of shot making. Chardy has the power while Gasquet brings finesse and one of the most exquisite single handed backhands you will ever see. Gasquet has won 3 of their 4 clashes with Chardy claiming their most recent meeting earlier this year in Miami. Chardy has a losing record on clay dating back to 2013 while Gasquet has posted winning records on the red dirt for the last 14 years. Gasquet is fresh off a semi final run last week in Morocco and is primed for a deep run this week.
Best Bet: Gasquet WIN ($1.67)

Stefanos Tsitsipas v David Goffin
Tsitsipas delivered in a big way against Shapovalov and he should continue on his winning ways against Goffin. The Belgian continues to deal with injury and was a shadow of himself in losing 6-0 6-1 to Sousa in Miami. At his best he would account for the teenager with little trouble but in this form he would struggle to win matches on the Challenger Tour. Tsitsipas to make the 3rd round of a Masters Series event for the first time in his career.
Best Bet: Tsitsipas WIN ($2.00)
