Federer was in overdrive yesterday and The Wolf cannot see anyone stopping him if he continues to play like he did against Krajinovic. The bottom half is wide open with several qualifiers in the draw and many of the seeds making early exits.
Indian Wells Masters Preview
Juan Martin Del Potro v David Ferrer
Del Potro is on a tear at the moment and The Wolf rates him as the man to beat in the bottom half of the draw. He made some very big names look second rate en-route to winning the title in Acapulco last week and Ferrer was one of them. Del Potro has won the last 4 meetings between the two veterans and is returning to the peak of his powers. We are sometimes quick to forget that he is a former Grand Slam Champion and his performances last week over the Zverev brothers, Anderson and Thiem were top notch. His serve has been dominant and he has been crushing opponents with his forehand. One way traffic!
Best Bet: Del Potro -4.5 ($2.05)
Milos Raonic v Joao Sousa
The return of Raonic has been a gradual one and has gone much slower than the Canadian would has expected. He has lost 6 of his last 9 matches and it is clear that he cannot simply serve his way past opponents. The Wolf has been vocal about the speed of the courts, or lack thereof, all week long. It is great news for Sousa as the ball will be sitting up right in his sweet-spot. Sousa handled the Zverev serve will relative ease and was able to generate 4 breaks of serve. Half of that amount will be enough for him to beat Raonic! Sousa at the plus is the best of the day and The Wolf says to have something on him for the outright win.
Best Bet: Sousa +3.5 ($1.90)
Marcos Baghdatis v Dudi Sela
There may be bigger names taking the court but The Wolf want to give the qualifiers some love. After all, it is not often that we see two qualifiers meet in the 3rd round of a Masters Series event. Furthermore, Sela has made it through as a lucky loser! Baghdatis has really wound back the clock this week. He made light world of Kokkinakis in the opening round of qualifying matches and his win over Schwartzman was very impressive to say the least. Sela is far from a power hitter and that means Baghdatis should be able to control proceedings from the baseline. We will see plenty of slices and drop shots off the Sela racquet but they will ultimate be his undoing.
Best Bet: Sets Baghdatis 2-0 ($2.20)
