French Open Tips: Day 7

atp tour tips and preview

The Wolf is rolling out all 5 chips for his best of the day and says 10 time champion Rafael Nadal will have to be at his best.

Men’s French Open Feature Previews

Diego Schwartzman v Borna Coric
Coric is the danger man in this part of the draw and The Wolf has him meeting Rafa in the quarters. He is willing to go a step further ans say that Coric will end the year well inside the top 20 and is an outside chance to make the top 10. He has next to no points to defend at the slams and wins all of the matches he is supposed to. Federer, Zverev, Djokovic, Thiem and Tsitsipas are the last 5 men to beat him. The first 4 need no introduction and as we have seen with Taitsipas, the big hitting Greek is a star of the future. Coric rarely loses to men who do not have a big game. As we have seen in their prior encounters, Schwartzman does not have the weight of shot to hurt Coric. This will not go beyond three sets. Coric, Coric, Coric!
Best Bet: Coric -2.5 ($1.85)

Marin Cilic v Steve Johnson
After following the opening two matches of Cilic closely, The Wolf is ready to take him on in this one! He was less than convincing against both Duckworth and Hurkacz. The Wolf does not like what he has seen from him on the big points. Despite winning in excess of 40% of return points he has converted just 25% of break point opportunities. Against a dominant server like Johnson he will not get as many opportunities and that will keep the American right in this contest. Cilic may be 4-0 in the series but Johnson has takes sets off him on multiple occasions. The Wolf will be backing Johnson with the start and the upset win.
Best Bet: Johnson +5.5 ($1.91)

Rafael Nadal v Richard Gasquet
This may be hard to believe but through two rounds in Paris, Nadal has lost more games than Gasquet, 17 to 15. The Frechman has a horrific record against Nadal (1-15) all time, but is playing some fantastic tennis. The slower conditions in the opening week have been tailor made for his game and have allowed him to really wind up that exquisite backhand. The key to this encounter is Gasquet’s ability to win points behind his 2nd serve. In the past, Nadal has made mince meat of it. The 10 time French Open champion won 74% of points when returning Pella’s second delivery in his previous match and will definitely look to target that area of the Gasquet game. If the Frenchman can make close to 70% of 1st serves he will push Rafa in multiple sets.
Best Bet: Over 27.5 games ($1.85)
