Tennis lovers were left disappointed yesterday as Serena Williams withdrew from the tournament. It means a free pass for Sharapova who will take on Muguruza in the quarter finals. Day 10 is all about two men… Thiem and Zverev who will battle it out in the match of the day!
Men’s French Open Feature Previews
Dominic Thiem v Alexander Zverev
Two of the names that will carry tennis over the next decade will battle it out for a spot in the semi finals. Zverev is somewhat lucky to be here following three consecutive 5 set victories while Thiem was close to flawless in his most recent win over Nishikori. This is the young Germans first ever Grand Slam quarter final while Thiem is seeking a spot in the semi’s of the French for a 3rd straight year. Thiem has won 4 of their 6 clashed including 3 of their 4 meetings on clay. He is also the more proven of the pair in best of 5 sets matches and has a clear edge in stamina and physical strength. Zverev has worked far too hard to get here if we we go 4 or 5 sets he will fade dramatically. According to The Wolf, they will be telling factors. Thiem to win is close to a 5 chipper.
Best Bet: Thiem WIN ($1.57)
Marco Cecchinato v Novak Djokovic
Djokovic has navigated his way through what has been a rather favourable draw. Dutra-Silva and Munar were never going to trouble him in the early rounds while Bautista-Agut and Verdasco were unable to hit through the former world number 1. Cecchinato falls right into the same category as his previous opponents. He can be very effective on the surface but his single handed backhand will get a workout. Novak has been crushing his cross court backhand, and as we have seen in the past, if you cannot hit down the line against Novak, you will struggle to open up the court to hit winners. If Verdasco could not hit through Novak, Cecchinato definitely won’t.

Women’s French Open Tips
Sloane Stephens v Daria Kasatkina
We were all over Stephens against Kontaveit and will be backing the US Open champion with no hesitation in this one. The Wolf is shocked to see her installed as the outsider. She dropped just 2 games against Kontaveit and is serving lights out! She is making 3 out of 4 first serves and even when she misses, no-one has been able to make any inroads. She is winning a tournament leading 67% of 2nd serve points and that will test the Kasatkina return. This is also foreign territory for Kasatkina. It is her first Grand Slam quarter final while Stephens is coming off her maiden major at the US Open. Throughout her career, Stephens has performed well in Paris. She made the 4th round in 4 consecutive years. With a major under her belt she now has the confidence in big games. Stephens is a special!
