It was a huge week in tennis as Juan Martin Del Potro captivated the crowds in an emotion run in Rio. The former US Open champion defeated Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal en route to the gold medal match but ran out of steam against Andy Murray who prevailed in a 4 set thriller that lasted over 4 hours. Nishikori got the better of Nadal for the bronze while in Atlanta Aussie Nick Kyrgios took out the title defeating 3 time defending champion John Isner.
This week the players head to Cincinnati for the next installment of the Masters 1000 series. With all the big names backing up from last week The Wolf expects to see several upsets in the early rounds. Here is his preview of the opening round.
Nick Kyrgios v Lucas Pouille
Kyrgios proved his doubters wrong last week by winning his second title of the season and his career. He now looks to continue with his winning ways at the Cincinnati Masters and The Wolf when he takes on French rising star Lucas Pouille. The pair met one time in the juniors with Pouille prevailing in three very tight sets. Kyrgios is far from great on the short turn around and as a result we have to back the Overs. There has been at least one tiebreaker in 4 of the last 5 Kyrgios matches with the Overs saluting in 5 straight Kyrgios matches!
Tip: Over 22.5 games ($1.91)
Gilles Simon v Grigor Dimitrov
The Wolf is very surprised to see Simon start this match as the outsider. Dimitrov made an early exit in Rio and struggled to find any sort of rhythm against Cilic in his opening match. Simon got past Coric and Sugita and was tight in it against Nadal but couldn’t produce his best when needed most. Dimitrov has won 2 of their last 3 meetings, all of which were this year, but it is Simon that holds a 5-2 careers H2H advantage. Simon has the type of game that can really frustrate the Bulgarian and with his game well of it’s best look for him to make far too many errors. The consistency of the Frenchman will get him the win.
Tip: Simon WIN ($2.00)
