Aus Open 2018: Women’s Final

It’s women’s final day and we will have a new Grand Slam champion. Halep or Wozniacki… Wozniacki or Halep… The Wolf gives us his in-depth analysis.

Day 13 – Women’s Final Preview

Simion Halep v Caroline Wozniacki
Irrespective of the result we will have a new Grand Slam champion and you will not find two women that deserve it more. Both women have been ranked number 1 in the world at some point and both have made multiple Grand Slam finals. Unfortunately they share 0-2 records in major finals but that will come to an end for one of them.

On form Halep, the current number 1 deserves to start the favourite but The Wolf says to look past it. Halep has had multiple matches go beyond the 3 hour mark in the tournament and she looked physically spent at the end of her match against Kerber. She won only 33% of 2nd serve points in that match which is a alarming statistic against one of the most consistent players on the WTA Tour.

Wozniacki has dominated this series over the last few seasons. She has won the last 3 meetings between them highlighted by a 6-0 6-2 demolition last time out. Wozniacki has consistently been able to pounce on the Halep 2nd serve and we are sure to see her employ identical tactics. There will be nerves approaching the finish line and that is where Wozniacki’s advantage in the H2H will shine through.
Best Bet: Wozniacki +1.5 ($1.95)
Value Bet: Wozniacki WIN ($2.20)
1st Set Score After 2 games:  Wozniacki 2-0 ($3.80)
