Aus Open Day 7 Preview (Women’s): Day Session

Day 7 – Women’s Feature Match Previews

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Svetlana Kuznetsova (11:00am)
Had Kuznetsova not come off a 9-7 epic 3rd set win over Jankovic The Wolf was ready to make her one of the bets of the day. We won’t know how the veteran has pulled up unless they end up deep in a 3rd set. The pair have met 7 times with Kuznetsova winning 5 but it was Pavlyuchenkova who came out on top a fortnight ago in Sydney. What is most surprising about the history of the two is that just 1 of their 9 meetings have gone the distance. When one of them has gotten the upper hand they have gone on with it. With Kuznetsova coming off a tough match she will know the importance of getting out of the blocks quickly. Once she does so it will be pedal to the medal.
Best Bet: Under 21.5 games ($1.91)
Value Bet: Sets Kuznetsova 2-0 ($2.60)

Mona Barthel v Venus Williams (12:30pm)
The Wolf has been fading Venus throughout the tournament but she has played some amazing tennis in her last two matches. She has been standing up on the baseline and bludgeoning he ground strokes – sending her opponents in all sorts of directions. Barthel silenced the Aussie crowds with a win over Barty has has already won 6 matches this week after coming through the qualifiers. Over the last few years Venus has been spent by this stage of the majors after having long matches in the earlier rounds. This has not been the case here and she is super fresh. Little sister Serena put on a clinic yesterday and today it will be the older Williams sister that proves too strong.
Best Bet: Venus -3.5 games ($1.83)
Value Bet: Sets Williams 2-0 ($2.10)

Sorana Cirstea v Garbine Muguruza (4:00pm)
Cirstea was kind to us last time out winning as a rank outsider but her game must find another level if she is to compete with Muguruza. The lady from Spain played her best tennis of the tournament in the 3rd round but lets not take anything away from the Romanian, who like Garbine, is yet to drop a set. The pair have never met before but is shapes as an entertaining match as both ladies like to go for their shots. Cirstea has nothing to lose and after her performance the other night Muguruza would have much preferred to play under lights again. Muguruza should have too much class but not after Cirstea brings the best out of her. Muguruza in three.
Best Bet: Over 20.5 games ($1.91)
Value Bet: Sets Muguruza 2-1 ($4.20)

Angelique Kerber v Coco Vandeweghe (9:00pm)
The serve has rarely been acknowledged as a difference maker in women’s tennis but don’t say that to Coco Vandeweghe. She took the game away from Bouchard in the 3rd round with some booming serves and she can trouble Kerber in the very same way. The Wolf is adamant that Kerber will make an earlier than expected exit and Coco has the serve, power and consistency required to get it done.
Best Bet: Vandeweghe +4.5 ($2.00)
Value Bet: Vandeweghe WIN ($3.50)
