ATP World Tour Finals – Day 4

Federer wound back the clock yet again to end Novak Djokovic’s win streak and qualify for the knockout stages. Novak must now beat Berdych in his final round robin match in order to progress. Berdych was ousted by Nishikori in the other match and can no longer make it through. It will all come down to the Federer-Nishikori match to determine who progresses.

On Day four Murray and Nadal will face off with the winner all but assured top spot in the group while Wawrinka and Ferrer do battle in a do or die encounter. Nadal may hold a 15-6 H2H edge over Murray but the Wolf says it is all about the present and not the past. Nadal may have shown improvement in recent weeks but Murray has the edge in recent form, crowd support and most importantly the surface. Murray will not make the errors that Wawrinka did and Nadal’s ground-stokes no longer have the weight or spin. If Murray goes for his shots he will win in straight sets.

In the other match Wawrinka cannot afford to make the errors that made against Nadal. Stan may have won the last 3 encounters against Ferrer but after watching him the other morning the Wolf has absolute NO trust in him at the moment. With Ferrer we know what we will get – he will grind away for 3 hours if necessary, give his opponent absolutely nothing and grind him into the ground. There is no questioning that this match is on Wawrinka’s racquet but as an underdog it is hard to look past Ferrer.
