Citi Open Washington
It was a tough day for the Aussies with Groth and Thompson both losing tight matches. Daniel Evans caused the upset of the day when he defeated Grigor Dimitrov and we will be hoping for much of the same in the second round will multiple Aussies going into their matches as huge underdogs. James Duckworth takes on big serving John Isner while John Millman faces former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis. The match of the day though is between two teenagers that are already making big waves on the tour – Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz. It should be a very intriguing battle.
Alexander Zverev v Taylor Fritz
These are two names that we will be hearing for a long time to come – especially Alexander Zverev who has been a Wolf favourite for months now. We followed him through the European clay court swing and into the grass court season and he didn’t let us down. He made the semi’s in Munich before finals appearances in Nice (clay) and Halle (grass) in a true display or versatility. Fritz burst onto the scene making the final in Memphis early in the year but has struggled to go on with it. They are both big lads who build their game behind a dominant serve but Zverev is a far more accomplished player. His can do almost anything with his two handed backhand and he is a much better mover than the American. Zverev will have a touch too much class in this one.
Tip: Zverev WIN ($1.44)
John Isner v James Duckworth
Aussie James Duckworth returns to his favourite surface (hard court) this week and it comes as no surprise to see him make his way through the qualifying and into the second round of the main draw. His won a Futures event in China and followed that up with a win on the Challenger Tour in Bangkok. Duckworth is the ultimate grinder and it will keep him in good stead against a man who tries to serve opponents off the court. Like Isner, Duckworth is no stranger to tiebreakers with a total of 8 in his last 7 matches. On the other side of the court Isner has played 21 beakers in his last 13 matches! A first set tiebreaker is all bu a morale – 10 of the last 13 opening sets in Isner matches have been decided by a breaker and with the same set to happen year the Over is a special!
Tip: Over 22.5 games ($1.73)
