Citi Open Washington

Washington hosts the Citi Open this week with a very competitive field chasing the 500 points on offer. Tomic, Duckworth, Groth, Thompson and Millman will be flying the flag for the Aussies with the majority of them stacked in the top half of the draw. They will have their work cut out for them with Isner, Monfils, Zverev and Dimitrov also in the draw. Much of the play yesterday was suspended due to rain meaning a backlog of matches. Here are The Wolf’s winners.

Feature Previews

Ryan Harrison v Stephane Robert
Stephane Robert can be a very tricky opponent and Harrison will find out just how awkward he is to play against. The pair met on one occasion some two and a half years ago with Harrison prevailing but the American has been severely out of form since them. He has dropped well outside of the top 100 and has been a fixture on the Challenger Tour. He has had to qualify his way into most tournaments and has not posted consecutive main draw wins at ATP level since Acapulco last year. Robert on the other hand is coming off a semi final showing in Hamburg last week and has made multiple finals at Challenger level this season. Robert has played a stack of matches this season, not to mention facing a higher calibre of opponents that includes Djokovic, Del Potro, Zverev and Monfils. The Wolf has Robert favourite in this one!
Tip: Robert WIN ($2.10)

Sam Groth v Brian Baker
A drop in form has seen Aussie Sam Groth fall well outside of the top 100 but this is a match which The Wolf has him winning with relative ease. Baker scored his first main tour win since 2013 last week against Krajicek before falling in straight sets to Baghdatis. He had to qualify last week and managed to get 4 matches into his legs. The American’s best tennis is well beyond him and countless injuries have really taken their toll. They have had a huge effect on his movement and it always looks like he is nursing his way around the court. He really struggles to play shots on the run, especially the backhand, and you can be sure that Sam’s serve and volley game will put him under extreme pressure. Baker’s lack of matches sees him play the big points poorly and it will again cost him in this one.
Tip: Sam Groth WIN ($1.67)
