The ATP Tour makes the change to the red dirt following back to back Masters Series events in the US. Several Aussies in action this week with Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson flying the flag in Houston.
ATP Houston Feature Previews
Fernando Verdasco v Denis Kudla
Kudla will have the home town support but it will not be enough against a clay court veteran. Verdasco is a former winner here in 2014 and 5 of his 7 career titles have come on clay. The veteran has had a fantastic start to 2018 with wins over some big names including Thiem, Bautista-Agut and Dimitrov. The Wolf says he is one of the men to beat this week and has him walking all over Kudla.
Best Bet: Sets Verdasco 2-0
Bjorn Fratangelo v Jordan Thompson
This is a surface that simply does not suit Aussie Jordan Thompson. He has had no success whatsoever at ATP level on clay and he has played very few matches on this surface. Fratangelo on the other hand has played a lot of tennis on clay, especially at Challenger level. He has wins over accomplished players on this surface including Rublev, Chardy, Simon and Sousa. The Wolf is close to rolling out all 5 chips for him to win.
Best Bet: Fratangelo WIN ($1.62)
|Brown v Laaksonen||Laaksonen WIN ($1.80)|
|Verdasco v Kudla||Sets Verdasco 2-0|
|Tiafoe v McDonald||Sets Tiafoe 2-0 ($1.73)|
|Sandgren v Kavcic||Under 20.5 games ($1.91)|
|Fratangelo v Thompson||Fratangelo WIN ($1.62)|
ATP Marrakech Feature Previews
Benoit Paire v Gilles Simon
In the battle of the Frenchman The Wolf cannot get enough of Gilles Simon. This is a court that he has had great success on as a winner in 2008, and a semi finalist two years earlier. He has also won the last two meetings against Paire including their only completed match on clay. Paire has posting a losing record on clay for the last three seasons and the same will occur in 2018.
Best Bet: Simon WIN ($2.10)
Thomas Fabbiano v Richard Gasquet
It was an American hard court swing to forget for Gasquet and he has now lost his last four matches on tour. The Wolf says not to be concerned though as he now makes a return to his beloved clay courts. It is a surface that his opponent, Fabbiano, has had no success on. The Italian has a 1-8 record on the main tour on the red dirt and it will not be improving in Marrakech. Gasquet to be in complete control from the first rally.
Best Bet: Gasquet -4.5 ($1.73)
