The top seeds have survived and so to has one of the Wolf’s bolters. At the start of the week he said that Dolgopolov could cause some damage in the latter rounds and he will get his chance against Kei Nishikori. The concerning part though is that he is yet to take a set of Nishikori in their four previous meetings – all of which were on a more favourable surface (hard court). Can’t see him hitting hard enough and consistently enough to roll for the defending champion.
On the topic of champions, Rafael Nadal takes on Fabio Fognini – the erratic Italian. Fognini has been a very dangerous opponent for Rafa in the past and has in fact won 3 of the last 5 meetings, including two on clay. Nadal may be returning to his peak form but the huge price on offer for Fognini makes him a great be with the handicap start.
In the other matches we will stick will Benoit Paire who won as our value bet last night along with the experience Philipp Kohschreiber who has won both previous encounters against Kuznetsov on clay.
