The tournament favourites will take the court for the first time this week after receiving a bye in the openinig round. Nick Kyrgios faces American teenager Jared Donalson while John Isner takes on Mannarino for the 7th time in his career. Big serving Kevin Anderson and in form Donald young are also in action.
John Isner v Adrian Mannarino
Isner suffered a disappointing loss to countryman Ryan Harrison last week but he is the 3 time defending champion here and The Wolf expects him to get stuck into Mannarino nice and early. The H2H record reads 5-1 but it is effectively 5-0 with Isner retiring hurt in the other meeting. Isner has dropped just a single set to the Frenchman and has won the last 8 sets they have contested. This court has been like a second home for the towering American over the last few years and with a rampant crown behind him look for him to start his title defence with a straight sets victory.
Tip: Sets Isner 2-0 ($1.67)
Jared Donaldson v Nick Kyrgios
The Wolf was all over Donaldson in his opening round match against Sam Groth and he finds himself taking on yet another Aussie. The antics of Nick Kyrgios continued last week and it certainly had an effect on his on court performance where he suffered a disappointing loss to 17 year old Denis Shapovalov. Donaldson showed great poise against Groth and handled his big serve with consummate ease. He has plenty of tennis under his belt and will look to carry on from his impressive performance in Toronto last week. Mentally, Kyrgios simply isn’t there at the moment. He served 18 double faults in his last match and will no doubt spray plenty of errors. With Kyrgios in a rut we will back the Overs and Donaldson with the start when the odds are released.
