While the focus over the Easter break for many will be on Championships form and chocolate, The Wolf is looking forward to zincing up his nose and casting his eye over the Rip Curl Pro at the iconic Bells Beach, Australia. Bells is a mecca for surfers worldwide and the jewel in the crown of the Australian leg of the WSL. You’ve got to win in to ring it at Bells and the below surfers represent some great chances.
Best Bet: John John Florence ($8.00)
Coming off the back of an unlucky Quicksilver Pro on the Gold Coast, where he was knocked out of the quarters on the final siren, we like John John Florence to go deep. Starting to live up to his long time potential, the Hawaiian wunderkind won this year’s Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational and the long rights of Bells will really suit his style.
Value Bet: Mick Fanning ($7.00)
On the home front, it’s always hard to go past defending champ Mick Fanning. Despite a tumultuous 2015, no one in the word surfs Bells better than white lighting and the freedom of his self-enforced year away from the tour might be just the ticket to see Mick really unleash this year. The word around Snapper at the opening event of this year’s tour was that Mick was surfing the Super Bank better than anyone and with an already amazing 4 wins at Bells throughout his career, the duel world champion is a great bet to make it 5th win this year.
Bolter: Connor Coffin ($51)
If you’re looking for a roughie, Californian Connor Coffin ($56) is a serious surfer on the rise. His local break is the world famous Point Break of Rincon in Southern California which are often compared to the right points reef breaks of Bells. He made the 5th round at the Quicky pro and the look for him to go deep and give the finals a shake at Bells.
