The Men’s World Championship Tour moves to the shores of South Africa’s Jeffrey’s Bay. Strong offshore winds could see consistent 6-8 foot swells which should see Supertubes put on a great spectacle. That however is unlikely to be the case with the outlook for a lack of significant winds in the Jeffrey’s Bay area.
There are a host of former winners in the field including 5 time winner Kelly Slater, Joel Parkinson, Jordy Smith and defending champ Mick Fanning. Owen Wright is fresh off his win at the Fiji Pro but the J-Bay Open does not set up well for goofy footers. Mark Occhilupo was the last and only goofy-footer to win the event back in 1984 so we will be steering well clear of them here.
Looking for his fourth World Title, Mick Fanning is the obvious choice for more reasons than one having won here three times but keep an eye on Adriano de Souza who was victorious here when the Billabong Pro 6-star event was held here back in 2012. Here are our best best for the J-Bay Open.
