The World Surfing League moves to Tahiti for the Billabong Pro and one of the toughest stops on the tour. Teahupo’o is one of the world’s most dangerous waves and that just adds to the excitement. We will see tube after tube this week and it’s all thanks to mother nature.
Teahupo’o is somewhat of a meeting points as storms from as far as Antarctica to meet the Pacific Ocean half a mile out of the Tahiti shores. The sheer size of the waves is due to the depth of the water which is still several hundred metres deep less than a mile from shore. The result is the perfect tube so strap in for the ride of your life!
One man who knows how to ride Teahupo’o is Owen Wright. He is an absolute tube pig and has ridden perfect 10’s here on multiple occasions. He is coming off a win in Fiji and is one of the best forehand barrel riders on tour. He is the best pick at $8 while Kelly Slater is huge unders at the quote of $6.50.
John John Florence is the best backhand tube rider in the world coming back off an injury and is great value at $8. He was recently spotted tearing Lowers to shreds and the Wolf says do NOT be concerned about his injury.
The best of the long shots is another Aussie Kai Otton. He relishes in big wave left hand conditions and will be very hard to beat in the heats. Keep an eye on him and don’t forget to at least back him to make the quarters.
