FIFA World Cup Top Scorers

World Cup Golden Boot Betting

Each World Cup tournament is accompanied by a number of player awards, with the most notable being the World Cup Golden Boot, awarded to the player who scores the most goals at the World Cup.

The award only counts goals scored in the final tournament and not qualifying matches. If there is more than 1 player with the most goals, then the number of assists will be used as a tiebreaker and if there is still a tie, it will then be awarded to the players who has played fewer minutes.

Who will score the most goals in Russia?

Only one player to have topped the goal scoring lists at a World Cup, played for a side that failed to advance past the Group stage. That was Russian Oleg Salenko in 1994.

The highest goal scorer has represented a team that has appeared in just 8 of the 20 world Cup finals to date.

This means that the luck of the draw and strength of opposition in the Group stage, moreso than the number of games played, will determine who will be the World Cup Golden Boot winners in 2018.

The Golden Boot contenders

World Cup Golden Boot betting is set to be tight and very intriguing given the number of experienced stars, players in peak form and young guns at this tournament.

Egyptian Mohamad Salah will stand a good chance, especially if his Egyptian side can get into the quarters. He is a wizard in front of goal and is sure to be one of the most watched players.

Argentina are set for a good run at Russia, which means the great Lionel Messi will feature strongly in markets.

Luis Suarez, Harry Kane, Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski are also top chances for the Golden Boot award.

Outsiders

Edinson Cavani has been in great form all season and looks to be still in the prime of his career at 31.

Mauro Icardi is in great touch. The 25 year old striker is a class act and will bag himself a few goals in the Group stages.
