FFA Cup Feature Previews

Sydney FC v Melbourne City – Wed 7:30pm
A year ago it was Melbourne City who claimed the FFA Cup and their first piece of silverware. A vintage Tim Cahill header was enough to get them the win but Sydney FC got their revenge in the A-League with two wins and a draw in their three meetings. A combined scoreline of 7-2 reflects just how dominant the Sky Blues were in those encounters and Graham Arnold has not been shy to express his thoughts that his side is even better than a year ago! All reports are that the additions of Wilshire, Mierzejewski, Retre and Kalik have been welcomed with open arms and all have settled well. Sydney were dominant against both Darwin and Bankstown – barely getting out of first gear. The trio of Brosque, Bobo and Ninkovic looked as dangerous as ever while their defence again looks to be air tight. City on the other hand were really tested by Hakoah and the injury sustained by Fornaroli will see him miss the start of the A-League season. His absence will really stifle the City attack and The Wolf cannot see them creating in the final third of the field without him. This is just the second time Sydney are at home in the FFA Cup in almost 16 matches and they will take full advantage. Graham Arnold has installed a real sense of professionalism in the Sky blues program and we will see them bring a superior fitness and physicality to this game. Sydney will win and win well.
Best: Sydney FC WIN ($1.83)
Value: Teams To Score – Sydney Only ($3.40)

Heidelberg Utd v Adelaide Utd – Wed 7:30pm
This match could not come at a worse time for Heidelberg. They were chasing the treble in the NPL Grand Final but were beaten in extra time by arch rivals Bentleigh Greens. To make things worse they must now back up 3 days later against A-League opposition. We saw them struggle when on a short turn around against Sydney United in the last round of the FFA Cup and they have had a stacked schedule for a member federation side. There is no questioning their quality – especially defensively. They held Perth Glory scoreless and it took Sydney United 119 minutes to find the back of the net. They had maintained 5 consecutive clean sheets at home prior to the loss to Bentleigh Greens at the weekend and will again look to set their lines against the Reds. For Adelaide a new manager has brought about new beginnings. McGowan, La Rocca, Galekovic, Cirio and Carrusaca all gone. The addition of Blackwood from Sydney FC up front will provide them with youth, energy and pace. Absalonsen has a beautiful left foot and it is clear that Kurz wants to play an expansive style of football. The Wolf expects them to go wide early and look to get balls into dangerous areas but Heidelberg will be difficult to break down. Adelaide will be patient and will eventually wear the NPL side down. There won’t be many goals but the few that are scored will be by men in Red shirts.
Best: Under 2.5 goals ($2.25)
Value: HT/FT – Draw/Adelaide ($4.60)
