Arsenal, AC Milan and Zenit posted dominant wins on Matchday 1 and will look to take complete control of their respective groups by posting big wins on Matchday 2. The Gunners and Milan will have no troubles doing so but Zenit will be tested when they host Real Sociedad.
Europa League Matchday 1 Previews
BATE v Arsenal – (Fri 3:00am)
Stubborn has forever been a word associated with Arsene Wenger but we has seen his start to change his ways. The ‘3 at the back’ is starting to work wonders with Kolasinac and Bellerin doing wonders in the more advanced wing back roles. After having the late game and having to back up again in a few days The Wolf expects Wenger to use his full compliment of players. Just like we saw against Koln we should see Mertesacker, Holding, Iwobi, Elneny, Walcott and Giroud all get a start. That is incredible depth for the secondary competitions (Europa, EFL Cup and FA Cup). BATE have won just 1 of their last 5 in this competition and against the class side of the competition they will not be improving that record.
Best: Arsenal WIN ($1.44)
Value: Under 2.5 goals & Arsenal WIN ($4.00)
AC Milan v Rijeka – (Fri 5:05am)
A loss at home to AEK in their opening group game has put Rijeka right behind the 8 ball. They will not be getting any points from their trip to Italy with The Wolf tipping the hosts to run riot. They put 5 past Austria Wien and can virtually have top spot sealed by Matchday 4 will back to back matches against AEK to follow. The rebuilding of the once great AC Milan has started and Montella has them carving through opposing defences will short intricate passes though the middle third of the pitch. The Wolf expects that and the shooting of Calhanoglu to be a real feature.
Best: HT/FT – AC Milan/AC Milan ($1.57)
Value: AC Milan Over 3.5 goals ($3.75)
Everton v Apollon Limassol – (Fri 5:05am)
The Toffees horrid run came to an end at Old Trafford and they have since posted back to back wins over Sunderland and Bournemouth. Niasse and Calvert-Lewin have combined for 5 goals in those matches and The Wolf expects both of them to feature prominently in this one. After losing to Atalanta this shapes as a must win for Everton. Apollon are in a real hole at the moment winning just 1 of their last 5 and they have failed to maintain a clean sheet in their last 8. That is a very concerning statistic when taking on one of the feature clubs in this competition. Everton to find some real form.
Best: HT/FT – Everton/Everton ($1.70)
Value: Everton Over 3.5 goals ($4.20)
Lyon v Atalanta – (Fri 5:05am)
There are some familiar faces in the Lyon squad with Depay, Rafael and Yanga-Mbiwa all making the move over from the Premier League. They are part of a rebuilding phase with Lyon looking to get back to the top European football. They have now fallen well behind PSG and Monaco in Ligue 1 and no longer have the top quality names that they used to. They continue to get stripped of their talent. People are quick to forget that names such as Essien, Wiltord, Benzema, Lloris, Juninho and Lacazette are all products of the French club. The current squad lacks both the class and experience of sides in the past and The wolf expects a down year for them. Atalanta are undefeated in their last 6 games while Lyon have won just 1 of 6. The French side have conceded 7 goals in their last 3 home games alone with Over 2.5 goals saluted in their last 18 competitive matches at home. There will be goals galore!
Best: Over 2.5 goals ($1.72)
