EFL Cup: Round Two

EFL Cup betting preview and tips

EFL Cup Round Two

It has had more than enough names but English league cup is now officially known as the English Football League Cup. Were into the second round of the competition which sees the Premier League sides enter the draw. Despite most of the top teams playing second string sides they have still dominated this competition. Swansea and Birmingham are the on clubs outside of the big names to claim the trophy in the last decade. The Wolf expects that trend to continue and says with almost half of the league a chance of making the top 4 once they fall out of contention they will look to the EFL Cup for a chance at a trophy.

There is a handful of headline matches in the second round and we will no doubt lose some of the big names. Premier League clubs Liverpool, Hull, West Brom, Stoke and Middlesbrough are all on the road so don’t be surprised to see at least one of them go down. We will also get a good look at Newcastle and QPR – two of the top sides in The Championship who are both tipped to be promoted.

Feature EFL Cup Match Previews

Burton v Liverpool – (Wed 4:45am) (Live Streaming Available)
Just two weeks into the new season and it seems that the roller coaster that is Liverpool is set to continue. They opened their season with an impressive win away to Arsenal but against Burnley it was a totally different story. Despite having 80% possession they failed to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss. They don’t have to wait long to bounce back and Jurgen Klopp has signaled his intentions of winning this competition after losing to Man City on penalties in the final last season. With no European football on the cards for the Reds this competitions becomes more of a priority than it would have been. Burton have earned just 4 points from their opening 4 matches in The Championship and sit just above relegation. Liverpool do travel to Spurs at the weekend in a blockbuster so The Wolf does expect several key figures to be rested for this one and that mean no Coutinho or Sturridge. They still have  more than enough depth and we should see Moreno, Can and Origi involved in this one. They will look to take control early with a goal before going on with it in the second half.
Best: Liverpool Score In Both Halves ($1.94)

Chelsea v Bristol – (Wed 4:45am)
It’s been far from convincing but Antonio Conte has won his opening two EPL matches as Chelsea manager. Their ageing defensive line has been breached in both matches but will be rested for this one as Chelsea will play virtually a second string side. Bristol are sitting just above the drop zone in League One and have had a poor start to their campaign. This will be their 5th game in 12 days and they take a shocking road record with them to Stanford Bridge. They have lost 7 consecutive league matches on the road in this competition and have conceded at least 3 goals in each of their last four trips away – all of which were against non Premier League teams. Pedro, Moses, Loftus-Cheek and Batshuayi should all start for Chelsea and will all of them trying to break into the starting XI The Wolf is expecting them to run riot!
Best: Chelsea Goals 3+ ($1.85)

Newcastle v Cheltenham – (Wed 4:45am)
The Geordies started as odds on favourites to come straight back up to the Premier League but two losses to start their season in The Championship was far form ideal. They have since bounced back with consecutive wins and have the potential to raise some eyebrows in this competition. They have been able to maintain the majority of their playing roster and we will see the likes of Krul, Dummettm Janmaat, Colback, Shelvey, Gouffran and Perez against Cheltenham. Rafa Benitez will no doubt try to rest several starters as they host 2nd placed Brighton & Hove on the weekend. They will be afforded that luxury against a Cheltenham side that is really struggling. They sit 22nd in League Two and have won just one of their last 5. This one will be over at half time.
Best: HT/FT – Newcastle/Newcastle ($1.82)

Morecambe v Bournemouth – (Thur 4:45am) (Live Streaming Available)
If this one is half as good as Morecambe’s first round win over Rotherham we are in for a treat. On that night they won 5-4 in a thriller and it was some accomplishment for a League Two side to win away at a Championship team. Morecambe though look destined for promotion. They sit top of League Two and have been scoring at will with 10 goals in their last 4 competitive matches. Liverpool academy player Jack Dunn has made a real splash since his loan move to Morecambe highlighted by a hat-trick against Rotherham. Look out for his left foot! Bournemouth may have lost their opening two matches but were competitive against tough opponents in Man Utd and West Ham. This is one of those matches were the hosts can really surprise.
Best: Handicap Morecambe +0.5 ($2.90)

Accrington v Burnley – (Thur 4:45am) (Live Streaming Available)
Burnley put on some sort of defensive display against Liverpool but they will have a whole lot more than 20% possession against Accrington. The tiny club from Lancashire will get national exposure in this game and they will need a huge turn around in form if they are to upset one of the most stubborn defences in the top flight. There will be no shortage of effort with a stack of young, home grown talent in the squad but it will not be enough to overcome The Clarets. Burnely fight against superior opponents on a weekly basis and make up for a lack of class with enthusiasm and determination. Accrington are sure to leave holes at the back and as we saw against Liverpool, Burnley are more than capable of taking their chances. There will be no upset in this one.
Best: Burnley WIN ($1.40)
