UCL Semi Finals Previews

Juventus v Monaco (2-0) (Wed 4:45am)
Some things never change – DEFENCE is still the key to winning titles at all levels of football. Juventus were flawless in the opening leg and held Monaco scoreless at home for the first time since November 2015 – the first time in 46 home games. Monaco had scored 3 goals in each of their last 4 UCL matches leading into the first leg but had limited opportunities against the best defence in world football. On the rare occasion when they got the better of Chiellini and Barzagli the ever reliant Buffon was there to clean up the scraps. Juventus have now maintained 7 consecutive clean sheets in this competition and their defence has been breached just twice in their 11 matches this season – that equates to 1000 minutes of football! The Italians find themselves in virtually the same scenario as their second leg fixture in the quarter finals against Barcelona. On that occasion they took a three goal lead to the Nou Camp and held the Catalan club scoreless at home, something which has rarely been done over the last decade. Monaco have no choice but to push numbers forward but don’t for a second think that Juve will flood forward on the counter. They will set their lines defensively and control the tempo of the game in the middle with Pjanic and Marchisio. Dybala will look to link with Higuain but Alves and Sandro will limit their runs down the flanks. Juventus to keep yet another clean sheet.
Best: Both Teams To Score – No ($1.95)
Value: Teams To Score – Juventus Only ($2.60)
Correct Score: Juventus 1-0 ($7.50)

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (0-3) (Thur 4:45am)
What was supposed to be an epic Madrid Derby was anything but. Under Diego Simeone Atletico have been the most disciplined and determined side in Europe but the first leg was without doubt their worst performance since the Argentine took the reigns back in 2011. We have become accustomed to seeing the Atletico players put pressure on the man with the ball but they failed to do so from the opening whistle in the opening leg. We saw close to half a dozen balls put into the box in the opening 10 minutes and they paid the price with Ronaldo giving Real an early lead. From that point on Kroos, Casemeiro and Modric were able to control the centre of the park which allowed Carvajal and Marcelo to continually flood forward. Asensio and Vazquez both had an impact off the bench and were involved in the other two goals as Ronaldo grabbed his hat-trick. No team has ever overcome this big a deficit in the semi-finals of the Champions League and The Wolf says that Atletico wont be the first. Real Madrid’s game has been built on their lethal counter attack – and attack that combined speed, skill and clinical finishing. With a 3 goal lead Zidane will not risk Gareth Bale and he will not need to. Atletico are not a side that like to play on the front foot. They prefer to play without the ball, dispossess their opponents and strike with Griezmann and co. Real have scored multiple goals in 24 of their last 25 matches and with Atletico chasing the game they will have a field day. An open game will favour the visitors and they will take full advantage.
Best: Over 2.5 goals ($1.66)
Value: Real Madrid WIN ($2.50)
Correct Score: Real Madrid 3-1 ($19.00)
