UCL Tips: Round Of 16 – 2nd Leg

UEFA Champions League odds

We have seen a record 55 goals in the 12 round of 16 matches to date and with 4 games still to come there is no predicting what it will end up at. The Spanish sides continue to reign supreme in Europe and we could see up to 4 La Liga sides in the quarters with Atletico and Sevilla taking winning leads into the second leg of their respective clashes. Leicester will have the chance to spoil the party against Sevilla while fellow English side Man City are likely to be involved in another goal-fest when they face Monaco.

UCL Round of 16 Previews

Wednesday (6:45am)

Juventus v Porto (Agg 2-0)
The home record of Juventus in European competition suggests this one is a no contest. Bayern Munich and Barcelona remain the only two sides to win in Turin dating back to March 2004. That’s a stretch of over 40 UCL matches and with Porto needing at least two goals they will need more than luck in this one. Porto sure didn’t help themselves in the first leg with Alex Telles booked twice and sent for two cynical fouls in as many minutes. Juve substitutes Pjaca and Dani Alves both scored in the final 20 after Porto held on with 10 men for almost 50 minutes. Juventus could have had 4 or 5 with the recent shift to a traditional back four resulting in an increased amount of chances and goals. Lichtsteiner and Sandro have been very effective in wide areas while the midfield trio of Dybala, Pjanic and Khedira are far from shy when it comes to shooting from range. Porto created nothing in the 1st leg and in Italy The Wolf expects much of the same. Juve have 5 clean sheets in the last 7 UCL home matches and will march their way into the quarters yet again.
Best: Porto Under 0.5 goals ($2.10)
Value: Under 2.5 & Juventus WIN ($3.25)

Leicester v Sevilla (Agg 1-2)
The decision to sack Claudio Ranieri has had an immediate impact. Whether it was the right decision or not remains to be seen but they have posted consecutive wins over Liverpool and Hull in the two matches since Shakespeare took over. He now faces the ultimate task and the Foxes are in a good spot heading into the second leg following Vardy’s crucial away goal. A 1-0 win is enough to see them through on away goals and if they can replicate their group stage home performances they will continue to defy the odds. The won all 3 of their group games at King Power Stadium with 4 goals scored and just the one conceded. Sevilla though have been the masters of home and away ties in Europe over the last 5 seasons. Coach Sampaoli wears his heart on his sleeve and it definitely rubs off on his players. A youthful squad they display incredible amounts of energy – especially with their movement off the ball. Correa and Sarabia will be tough to containe on the counter in a diamond that features Jovetic at the Head and Nasri at the base. Both sides will look to defend first with 1 goal holding significant value in the tie. There have been fewer than 3 goals in 6 of the last 8 Sevilla matches and the Wolf cannot see their defence being breached more than once. If Leicester are to progress it will have to be by a scoreline of 1-0. The Wolf thinks they will come up just short in a a draw.
Best: Under 2.5 goals ($2.10)
Value: Draw ($3.60)

Thursday (6:45am)

Atletico Madrid v Leverkusen (4-2)
Leverkusen tried to go toe to toe with Atletico in the first leg but were blown off the park. The speed, ball movement and relentless pressure of Diego Simeone’s side took it’s toll as the Leverkusen players spent much of the evening sliding all over the place. Koke and Gabi set the platform for Atletico in the centre of the park and once they win the ball it all begins. Saul, Carrasco, Griezmann and Gameiro flood forward and opposing defences have no answer. They are undefeated in their last 20 UCL matches at the Estadio Vincente Calderon and Leverkusen will not be changing that. In what can only be described as a remarkable record they have kept their opposition scoreless in 16 of those matches! No team will want to face them in the quarters.
Best: Teams To Score – Atletico Only ($2.75)
Value: 1st Goalscorer – Antoine Griezmann ($4.25)

Monaco v Man City (Agg 3-5)
We were treated to a feast of football in the opening 90 minutes of this tie with non-stop end to end action. It was also the match that marked the resurgence of Sergio Aguero and he has been brilliant since. It is hard to see anything but goals yet again in this one. Both sides have scored a total of 14 goals in their last 5 competitive matches and with Monaco needing to make up a 2 goal deficit you can be sure that they will not be sitting back. Trying to sit on a lead is extremely dangerous as we saw with PSG and Pep will be fully aware that his side is susceptible at the back. There is no chance that he will be relying on them to hold out a Monaco side that features Falcao and Bernardo Silva. Rather he will give Sterling, Silva and de Bruyne the licence to run free and link up with one of The Wolf’s favourite players in Aguero. No need to choose which side will win, just back goals, goals and more goals!
Best: Over 3.5 goals ($1.95)
Value: Over 5.5 goals ($6.00)
