A-League Tips Round 23

soccer betting A-League odds

Just three matches in the A-League this week as we have the completion of Round 23. Last week we saw Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory register home wins to lock up the top two spots on the ladder but there are four places to be filled in the finals. The Jets need a result against City while Adelaide, Brisbane and the Wanderers will again be backing up from midweek ACL matches. Here is The Wolf’s A-League preview for this weekend’s matches.

A-League Tips & Preview Round 23

Melbourne City v Newcastle – (Sat 7:50pm)
If the Jets are to end their 6 year finals drought they will have to show more discipline than last week. After taking an early lead via a Nabbout penalty, Jason Hoffman was handed a second yellow card after just 30 minutes to leave his side down to 10. It gave the Roar a lift and they took full advantage. This week they make the trip to Melbourne having lost their last three road games and in need of a result. Interestingly, 6 of their last 8 goals scored have come in the first half. That make for a frenetic pace in this one as City lead the A-League in first half goals this season with 24. There have been 3 or more goals in the last 7 meetings and The Wolf has noted that we could reach that mark at half time!
Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals ($2.25)
Value Bet: 1st Half Over 2.5 goals ($4.75)

Adelaide v Brisbane – (Sun 5:00pm)
Both sides will be backing up from ACL commitments yet again and The Wolf has been rubbing his palms together in excitement. The Roar are playing their 4th consecutive game on the road and were bailed out by the Jets in Round 22 who had a player sent off early. In the last fortnight this is what their travel schedule has looked like. Brisbane-Korea-Brisbane-Newcastle-Brisbane-Japan-Brisbane-Adelaide. Energy levels will be well below where they need to be but the same will apply for Adelaide whose season has gone from bad, to worse, to disastrous. With just 3 wins across all competitions they are done from the ACL as well. We were all over the Unders in Adelaide’s 0-0 draw to the Wanderers and The Wolf is expecting a very similar pattern of play in this one. The Reds have struggled to form combinations in attack all season long and if the Roar take the lead at any point they will kill the game with controlled passing in the centre of the park. The price on offer for the Unders looks very attractive.
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals ($2.15)
Value Bet: Teams To Score – Brisbane Only ($4.00)

Western Sydney v Wellington – (Sun 7:00pm)
The Wanderers have managed to score only 2 goals from their last 6 competitive matches and have failed to find the back of the net in their last two matches when backing up from ACL commitments. The Wolf has repeatedly pointed out their lack of depth in attack as a major issue but it is clearly too late in the season to have it addressed. They have missed the fortress that was Pirtek Stadium and are yet to register a win at Spotless Stadium this season. Wellington on the other hand have scored at least once in 6 consecutive matches and their 10 goals in that stretch is 5 times as many as Western Sydney. With a front-line that includes Barbarouses, Smeltz and Krishna we would be silly to have a single cent on the Wanderers. How Western Sydney are odds on is beyond all belief!!!
Best Bet: Double Chance Draw or Wellington ($1.87)
Value Bet: Wellington WIN ($3.75)
