In Round 21 Sydney FC look to bounce back after their first loss while the Victory will try and bridge the 8 point gap. Brisbane, Western Sydney and Adelaide will all be on the short back up following midweek ACL matches and The Wolf says it opens the door for their opponents.

A-League Tips & Preview Round 21

Melbourne City v Sydney FC – (Fri 7:50pm)
The Sky Blues unbeaten run came to an end last week but coach Graham Arnold has no reason to be discouraged. They had two legitimate penalty claims turned down and dominated possession in what was a very spiteful Sydney Derby. They now must roll their socks up for the trip to Melbourne where they will face a rejuvenated City side. The return of Fornaroli saw them put 5 past Wellington and they will have their tails up. City are undefeated in their last 6 against Sydney with wins in each of their last two at home against them – one of those in the final of the FFA Cup. What we do know about the Sky Blues is that they are awfully hard to break down and in order to beat them you have to get it done defensively. Despite losing to the Wanderer’s, Santalab’s goal was one of very few chances and with Vukovic is outstanding form between the sticks The Wolf cannot see them conceding more than once. Sydney have conceded more than once on just once occasion this season – an amazing stat. City are the best Overs team in the league with at least 3 match goals in 9 of their last 10 but The Wolf is dialed in with FC games and says the Unders is huge value!
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals ($2.10)
Value Bet: Draw ($3.40)

Brisbane v Wellington – (Sat 5:35pm)
The Roar shared the points with Perth last week to extend their unbeaten run across all competitions to 7 games. Extending that run will be a tough ask following a ACL match against Muang Thong but they do get the benefit of no travel with both matches at home. To date they have drawn both of their A-League matches when backing up from the ACL and The Wolf says that we have historically made a significant profit backing against the team on the short turn around. The teams have shared the spoils in the last 5 meetings with two wins a piece and a draw. The initial thoughts are that the Roar will look to play a controlled tempo early on but Wellington don’t allow you to. There has been at least one goal in the opening half in each of their last 6 away games and an average of almost 4 goals in each of their last 4 matches in Aus. There will be goals from all angles.
Best Bet: 1st Half Over 1.5 goals ($2.35)
Value Bet: Wellington Over 1.5 goals ($3.10)

Melbourne Victory v Adelaide – (Sat 7:50pm)
The Victory were given a sniff last week and they took full advantage. They had a spring in their step early on against the Mariners and a Berisha brace sent them on their way. The gap to Sydney is now 8 points and with the Melbournians hosting the Sky Blues in a top of the table clash next week we could see things get very interesting at the top. The Wolf was critical of Troisi early in the season but he has definitely come into his own in recent weeks and is really starting to dominate along side Valeri. Rojas continues to play amazing football and his combination down the left channel with Georgesvski has been a highlight all season long. Adelaide registered their 3rd win of the season last week but needed a Carrusca penalty to get over the line. They head to Melbourne following their ACL match against Gamba Osaka and The Wolf says it will have taken plenty out of them. The Victory have won 3 of the last 4 against Adelaide and even further back have lost in just 1 of the last 11 meetings. Melbourne have far more to play for and are the superior side. Melbourne are the bet of the week!
Best Bet: HT/FT – Melbourne/Melbourne ($2.05)
Value Bet: Melbourne Over 3.5 goals ($4.60)

Perth v Western Sydney – (Sat 10:00pm)
The Wanderers rode their luck to victory in the Sydney Derby ending a 1000 day drought against their cross town rivals. They are back into the top 6 as a result but are faced with a monumental task this week. Following their clash with the Urawa Reds they must make the long flight to Perth where they have failed to win in their last four attempts. Perth have lost just 1 of their last 9 league games and are undefeated in their last 4 at home – 3 wins and a draw. Taggart has scored in his last 5 games at nib Stadium while Marinkovic has added a further three. Some punters were deterred by Keogh’s absence last week but it didn’t stop Perth from scoring multiple goals for the 7th time in their last 8. The Glory’s free flowing attack makes them extremely dangerous come finals time and as we have seen this season they are extremely hard to beat at home. The Wanderers have won just 1 of their last 6 away matches in the A-League with The Wolf noting that the Glory attack will be the difference maker in this one.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals & Perth WIN ($2.70)
Value Bet: Handicap Perth -1 ($3.75)

Newcastle v Central Coast – (Sun 5:00pm)
It’s the latest installment of the F3 Derby and this one takes on greater importance than recent times with both sides in the hunt for a finals spot. the shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw back in Round 7 and on that occasion The Wolf made the Unders his best of the week. He is again ready to launch into the Unders this time around and says just 1 of the last 8 meetings have produced more than two goals. The last 5 encounters at Newcastle have ended in a draw and with both sides coming off a loss neither can afford to fall behind early in this one. The Mariners focus over the last month has been defence and it was the aspect of their game which had been lacking the most. Prior to last weeks loss they have won three in a row and The Wolf says that Paul Okon’s focus in training this week will have centred around discipline and focus. He is fully aware that Newcastle like to open things up in order to use Hoole and Nabbout out wide and will have Poljak and Ugarkovic tracking their every move through midfield. With windy and wet weather forecast, this one will be a real battle!
