A-League Tips Round 2

soccer betting A-League odds

The opening round didn’t disappoint with the Sydney Derby stealing the show. This week it is Melbourne’s turn to put on a spectacle as Tim Cahill makes his A-League debut in the derby between Victory and City. There were three draws in round 1, a rarity in the A-League and a win for Sydney FC could see them get some early separation on the ladder. Here is The Wolf’s preview for Round 2.

A-League Tips & Preview Round 2

Adelaide v Western Sydney – (Fri 7:50pm)
The Reds poor record against Newcastle continued last week as they were held to a 1-1 draw. They looked out of sync in attack and it will no doubt take a few more weeks for Guardiola and Henrique to gel in attack. The same can be said about the Wanderers who had a dreadful second half in the Sydney Derby. Nichols and Bulut missed some golden opportunities and were made to pay in full with the Sky Blues crushing them on the counter. Topor-Stanley was sorely missed in central defence as Sydney FC continually looked to get balls into the box. One of the only shining lights was the performance of Japanese star Kusukami. He was great on the ball and was able to penetrate the defence on multiple occasions with his speed and skill. Popovic will look to sure things up and the back and The Wolf expects a very cagey start from the visitors. Adelaide won the Grand Final 3-1 but the last three regular season meetings all ended in a draw. The value lies in the Unders and the draw.
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals ($2.00)
Value Bet: Draw ($3.50)

Sydney FC v Central Coast – (Sat 5:35pm)
What a start to the season for both teams. Sydney FC continued their dominance in the Sydney Derby with a crushing 4-0 win while the Mariners surprised everyone when they came back from 3-0 down in Perth to walk away with a point. Graham Arnold made it clear that his side would build on defence and the clean sheet against the Wanderers was probably more pleasing than the four goals. Zullo and Grand were excellent for the Sky Blues while Bobo played the perfect target role. He combined brilliantly with Holosko and with a bench than includes the likes of Brosque and Simon they are looking very dangerous. Sydney FC have won 5 of the last 6 meetings and there has been an astonishing 25 goals in the last 5 clashes. Sydney FC have the fire power and the Mariners have made it clear that they will not be rolling over. Goals, goals, goals!
Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals ($2.20)
Value Bet: Over 4.5 goals ($3.75)

Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City – (Sat 7:50pm)
The Sydney Derby stole the show last week and this week it is Melbourne’s turn to put on a spectacle. A packed Etihad Stadium will host Tim Cahill’s A-League debut in what shapes as an absolute thriller. Victory were minutes away from holding on for a win in Brisbane last week but conceded a injury time equaliser to a 10 man raw outfit. City on the other hand were able to hold on for a 1-0 win despite Sorensen being sent off on the hour mark. Bouzanis made some very important saves in his absence and there is no doubt that the Victory will look to test him early. Both sides will go for it from the opening whistle and an open encounter will really suit City. Caceres, Fornaroli and Cahill will be one of the most dangerous trio’s in the A-League this year and The Wolf expects them to strike nice and early. The loss of Troisi won’t help the Victory who will rely on Valeri and Broxham to provide the muscle through the middle. There have been at least 3 goals in each of the last 5 meetings between Victory and City. The Wolf says that trend will continue and has made Over 2.5 goals in this match his best of the week in the A-League.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals ($1.57)
Value Bet: 1st Half Over 1.5 goals ($2.35)

Newcastle v Brisbane – (Sun 5:00pm)
The Wolf said that the Jets will show plenty of fight this season and they didn’t let us down against the reigning champions in round 1. Wayne Brown scored on his A-League debut for the club and made the better of the chances. Andrew Hoole missed a golden opportunity to claim all three points but the signs early on were very positive – especially up front where Kokko was able to consistently get involved. Brisbane will be without Matt MCKay  who was sent off and we could see Tommy Oar get his first start after coming off the bench. The Jets will need to shut down Brett Holman who was heavily involved in Brisbane’s attack. Despite being winless in their last 5 against Brisbane (Drawn 2, Lost 3), the Jets have scored in all 5 matches. The market will continues to give Newcastle no respect and we will capitalise in the opening month of the season.
Best Bet: Both Teams To Score – YES ($1.53)
Value Bet: Draw ($3.50)

Perth v Wellington – (Sunday 7:00pm)
It would have been a tough week in training for the Glory after they dropped two points. They were completely dominant in the first half with Castro instrumental in helping his side build a 3 goal lead. They fell asleep in the second half as the Mariners exposed Warren and Djulbic out wide. It will be an area of concern for Kenny Lowe especially with Wellington possessing speed out wide in the form of Krishna and Barbarouses. It will be a long trip for the Phoenix but one they have enjoyed with wins in their last two travels to Perth. The away team has won the last 4 meetings and 5 of the last 6. There have been exactly 3 goals in 5 of the last 6 encounters but if that is to continue Wellington will have to be more clinical in front of goal. The Glory do not have that problem at Nib Stadium and have scored 3 goals or more in 5 of their last 6! They will not make the same mistake as last week.
