A-League Tips & Preview Semi Finals

Newcastle v Melbourne City – (Fri 7:50pm)
The City defence has been incredible over the last month but will it stand up against the most potent attack in the A-League… Melbourne City have played themselves into form at just the right time. They have now won 4 of their last 5 and conceded just a single goal in that stretch. That being said, holding out the Jets is a completely different proposition. The departure of Nabbout has not slowed them down. They put 8 past the Mariners in the final round of the regular season which saw them finish with 57 goals. Goals has also been the theme when these two clubs meet. The Overs is 11-0 in the last 11 meetings with 43 goals across those encounters – just under 4 goals per game. City have had the Jets number with 3 wins and a draw in the last 4 clashes but a bumper crowd at McDonald Jones Stadium will give the Jets a significant edge. The Jets will attack down the flanks relentlessly which will test Jamieson and Atkinson. Petratos has now been shifted into the hole behind O’Donovan and Champness. It has seen him get on the ball with more regularity which can only be good news for the Jets. If Topor-Stanley and Kantarovski can contain Fornaroli, the Jets will run away with this one.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals ($1.60)
Value Bet: Over 2.5 goals & Newcastle WIN ($3.40)

Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory – (Sat 7:50pm)
It took a 89th minute wonder goal from Berisha to get the Victory through last week but The Wolf says they will not have enough left in the tank to eliminate the defending champions. Sydney FC are undefeated in their last 8 against their traditional rivals and that includes lifting the trophy in last season’s Grand Final. The Sky Blues have dominated the Big Blue derby this season with three consecutive wins. Their battles are almost always tactical by nature with Graham Arnold getting the better of his former team mate Kevin Muscat in that department. It has been 9 meetings since the Victory have scored more than once against Sydney and The Wolf cannot see them bucking that trend. Sydney showed remarkable discipline in a 1-0 win over the Victory in their final game of the regular season. In what was a dead rubber for the Sky Blues, they defended stoutly and played the perfect game. With a Grand Final spot up for grabs The Wolf is certain that they will produce a 10 out of 10 performance. Brilliante and O’Neill will win the midfield battle which will provide Mierzejewski and Ninkovic will the freedom to run riot in the final third. Sydney will make it back to back titles for the first time in their history.
Best Bet: Sydney FC WIN ($1.75)
Value Bet: Teams To Score – Sydney FC Only ($3.20)
