A-League Tips Round 9

Round 8 was one of the most unusual in A-League history with 5 red cards! Sydney FC and Adelaide backed up from the FFA Cup Final with impressive wins while the Jets and Mariners scored 4 goals a piece to collect all 3 points. They sit 2nd and 6th respectively, a huge achievement thus far, but can they keep it up…

A-League Tips & Preview Round 9

Adelaide v Sydney FC – (Fri 7:50pm)
Sydney got the better of Adelaide to claim victory in the FFA Cup final but The Wolf says that the extra time victory did not reflect just how dominant Sydney were. The match should have been over at half time with Brilliante and O’Neill setting a platform in midfield. They were just as impressive in the win over Brisbane and will be the determining factor yet again according to The Wolf. The Sky Blues will be without Simon who was sent for his retaliation in the spitting incident with Garuccio to miss out for Adelaide. His absence means that the Reds will again be running with a make shift defence which spells trouble against the league leaders. Bobo will return after being rested and will partner Brosque while Mierzejewski will again be almost impossible to stop. Ryall, Zullo’s replacement will have drawn plenty of confidence after finding the back of the net last week while Wilkinson and Buijs will continue to be the best centre half pairing in the competition. Sydney are a class above and will extend their undefeated run against the Reds to 5 games. Anything more than even money for Sydney FC is value.
Best Bet: Sydney FC WIN ($2.15)
Value Bet: Teams To Score – Sydney Only ($3.50)

Western Sydney v Brisbane – (Sat 5:35pm)
To say that the Roar are missing troops is an understatement and with Papadopoulos set to be suspended for 6 weeks John Aloisi will be forced to play more and more youngsters. O’Toole has done his bit while Pepper has had to shift into a defensive role to cover. We saw them exposed on the flanks by Sydney FC last week and there is no doubt that the Wanderers will look to do the same. We cannot read into the Wanderers loss last week as Cornthwaite was sent from the field in the 20th minute. What we do know is that they are yet to maintain a clean sheet this season or in their last 9 A-League matches against the Roar. There is no love lost when these two meet with a sending off in each of the last 3 encounters. The Over is 6-3 in the last 9 with both teams scoring in each of those matches with an average of almost 4 goals per game along the way. With Brisbane decimated the Wanderers should take complete control. Things will get worse for Brisbane before they get better!
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals & WSW WIN ($2.85)
Value Bet: WSW Over 3.5 goals ($9.50)

Newcastle v Melbourne City – (Sat 7:50pm)
The Jets juggernaut continues and they deserve everything that comes their way. They have been spectacular in attack with 20 goals through 8 rounds – just shy of the all time record to start the season. Petratos and Nabbout continue to provide defenders with nightmares with Gerogevski’s overlapping runs another feature. They have great balance with Kantarovski and Ugarkovic putting in the hard work in midfield while the duo of Topor-Stanley and Boogaard provide plenty of experience. The Wolf cannot see how City slow down a rampant Jets outfit. The Melburnians have conceded 3 times in each of their last two outings and have collected just a single point from their last 4 league matches. They will also be without energetic ball winner Malik in midfield leaving a gaping hole – one which the Jets will exploit. The Over is 8-0 in the last 8 meetings and that will play right into the hands of the Jets. If you are not a believer of the Jets you will be after this week.
Best Bet: Newcastle WIN ($2.40)
Value Bet: Over 3.5 goals ($3.00)

Wellington v Melbourne Victory – (Sun 2:30pm)
It was a week to forget for both sides as they both went down by a scoreline of 4-1. The Victory failed to cope with Newcastle after being relegated to 10 men while the Phoenix defence left more than just the gate open as the Mariners ran riot. The absence of Milligan will make it difficult for Melbourne to play a controlled tempo and the Phoenix will have some wind in their sails after having won the last two meetings between the clubs. The Nix loss to the Mariners was their first at home in 9 A-League matches and The Wolf is willing to stick with them – especially at the price.
Best Bet: Both Teams To Score – YES ($1.50)

Value Bet: Wellington WIN ($2.85)

Central Coast v Perth – (Sun 5:00pm)
The Mariners have taken a leaf out of the Jets book in terms of attacking football and they are beginning to reap the rewards. They have lost just 1 of their last 5 and have really tightened things up at the back conceding only 4 goals in that stretch. De Silva and Hoole have been superb with the Mariners counter attack a real feature. Perth may sit 5th on the ladder ahead of the Mariners but have conceded 15 goals already this season – only the Phoenix have allowed more. Wolfy is not ready to buy into their win in Melbourne last week and says that the Glory never perform well when they play away from home in consecutive weeks. If the Mariners can get off to a quick start we could see them really go on with it. The Wolf is expecting them to win by multiple goals.
Best Bet: Central Coast WIN ($2.20)
Value Bet: HT/FT – Central Coast/Central Coast ($3.60)
