A-League Tips Round 20

Sydney FC and Newcastle showed why they are the top two sides in the A-League but The Wolf says to keep an eye out for Adelaide who continue to find ways to win. We will see plenty of ladder movements over the coming weeks with the start of the split rounds to accommodate for the ACL commitments.

A-League Tips & Preview Round 20

Melbourne Victory v Brisbane – (Fri 7:50pm)
It is clearly going to take time for the Victory to figure things out in midfield without Milligan. His aerial presence at set pieces and ability to shut down the counter were sorely missed against the Jets. Luckily for Melbourne, this week they face a Brisbane side that has consistently failed to capitalise on the opportunities created. In addition, they have been guilty of some very lazy defending. Papadopoulos and Pepper were clearly off the pace and their positioning was extremely poor. Look for Troisi to get Berisha in behind the defence on multiple occasions. It will really open up this game, as has been the case for the majority or Roar away matches this season. Brisbane have just the one clean sheet away from home this season and their lack of defence has forced them to push numbers forward in attack. They have found the back of then net in 6 of their last 7 away matches with multiple goals in 3 of their last 4. That being said, The Wolf has no faith in their defence. We could see them score twice and still lose!
Best Bet: Melbourne Over 2.5 goals ($3.10)
Value Bet: Brisbane Over 1.5 goals ($3.10)

Melbourne City v Sydney FC – (Sat 7:50pm)
Sydney were clinical against Wellington and took full advantage of some inexcusable individual errors. The pressure up top from Brosque and Bobo was relentless and The Wolf expects to see a repeat of such at AAMI Park. City are working on a 6 game unbeaten run but the Sky Blues have been their kryptonite in recent seasons. Sydney have won the last 5 clashes between the two sides with 4 of those coming via a multiple goal margin. Melbourne City have managed to find the net just twice in that stretch so look for their run of 6 consecutive games with at least two goals to come to an end. Mauk and Budzinski combined well in the win against Brisbane but will not be afforded the same room against Buijs and Wilkinson. Without McCormack, City cannot wait for the return of Fornaroli. He took part in a friendly against Guangzhou and could make a surprise appearance in this one. The Wolf thinks he will be held off for a return next week while O’Neill returns for the visitors after serving his one match ban. Sydney are a superior side across the board and it would be criminal for us not to back them any time they are paying more than even money!
Best Bet: Sydney WIN ($2.15)
Value Bet: Sydney FC Score Both Halves ($3.00)

Western Sydney v Wellington – (Sun 7:00pm)
This is a catch-up game for a Round 7 fixture that was postponed due to the surface at Spotless Stadium. It presents the Wanderers to close the gap on the sides above them and put some space between themselves and the bottom 4. A dominant first half against the Mariners allowed them to build a winning lead and The Wolf says they will make the most of a favourable schedule. With matches to follow against Sydney FC and Newcastle, this becomes a must win for the Wanderers! The Wanderers are undefeated in the last 7 matches between the two clubs and that streak will continue. Wellington’s defence was embarrassing last week and their tally of 5 points away from home this season is a league low. Bonevacia will have a point to prove against his former club. His combination with Carrusca and Lustica should be far too much to handle for a Wellington side that lacks any midfield presence. The Wanderers to come out with serious intent and have this one in the bag by half time.
Best Bet: Western Sydney WIN ($2.00)
Value Bet: HT/FT – WSW/WSW ($3.25)
