Super Rugby Round 9

Super Rugby enters Round 7 this week with some intriguing match ups across the board. Derbies between the Chiefs/Highlanders and Brumbies/Waratahs are shaping up as the games of the weekend, with both having serious implications in their respective conferences. The Wolf has looked through the round and you don’t have to wait long to see his best bet which comes up in the first game of the weekend.

Round 9 Preview and Tips

Super Rugby enters round 9 of competition this week with the Hurricanes and Chiefs kicking off proceedings on Friday evening in what shapes to be the game of the round. All Australian teams play this weekend with the blockbuster coming on Saturday evening with the Waratahs hosting the Reds in Sydney. The Wolf has pin pointed the value in the Melbourne Rebels vs Jaguares fixture. Beautiful conditions for running rugby are predicted for Melbourne on Saturday afternoon which should see points scored and the Wolf has it as a very one sided fixture.

Hurricanes vs Blues (Friday 5:35pm)
The match of the round sees two teams with 5-1 records take place with the Chiefs travelling to Wellington to take on the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes survived a scare last week against the Sharks who looked to have their measure up until the 75th Minute with the Hurricanes scoring late to win by 1. The Chiefs come off impressive wins over their NZ counterparts in the Highlanders and Blues and will be looking to improve on that record here against the Hurricanes. The Chiefs play a grinding style of rugby whereas the Hurricanes are more flashy and able to score several points. Last Season the Chiefs won both games the teams played and the Wolf sees them keeping this tight but going down in a tight one.
Best Bet: Chiefs +10.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Hurricanes 1-12 ($2.60)

Sunwolves vs Blues (1:05pm Saturday 14th April)
This game looks the toughest from a betting angle over the weekend with both sides being highly unpredictable through the first 8 rounds. The Sunwolves were trounced by the Waratahs last week and the Blues having started the season well have lost their last 5 games. They are the two worst defensive teams in the competition so the Wolf expects this one to be high scoring, but also close. The Sunwolves recorded a memorable win against the Blues at home last season however the Wolf expects the Blues to be too good in this one but the 18.5 points is too big to cover. With little to no confidence the Wolf expects the Sunwolves to cover.
Best Bet: Sunwolves +18.5  ($1.90)
Value Bet: HT/FT – Sunwolves/Blues ($7.50)

Rebels vs Jaguares (3:15pm Saturday 14th April)
The Rebels will need to win this fixture to stay atop of the Australian Conference and the Wolf feels they are a lock to do so. The Rebels have impressed this season, playing an attractive brand of rugby and look to be gaining the Australian Public’s attention. The Jaguares won both matches they played in Australian last season, however this season they haven’t been able to rely on the defence like they did last season and for this reason the Wolf sees the Rebels covering with ease in what will be a perfect track for both running rugby and lots of points. The Rebels have won their last 3 home favourites and have covered the line in each game.
Best Bet: Rebels -11.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Exact Winning Margin – Rebels 30+ ($4.50)

Highlanders vs Brumbies (5:35pm Saturday 14th April)
The Highlanders have lost their last 2 fixtures but return home to take on a Brumbies side which looks to have unlocked its attacking style in recent weeks. It appears to be a danger game for the Highlanders who need a win to get their season back on track. The highlanders have a good record at home winning 9-2 since 2017. They also have won the last 3 fixtures against the Brumbies with two of those taking place in Canberra. The Wolf sees the Highlanders as too good in this one but won’t be touching the -15.5 Line on offer. The Brumbies will adopt a possession and territory approach to this one which will set for a rather boring affair but expect them to cover the +15.5 points.
Best Bet: Brumbies +15.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Highlanders 1-12  ($3.10)

Waratahs vs Reds (7:45pm Saturday 14th April)
A big rivalry game this one with the Waratahs looking to stamp down their authority on the Australian Conference. They have scored 50 points in their last 2 games and present a seriously difficult challenge for the Reds. The Reds are a gritty side which were in the game early last week against the Brumbies to eventually run out of puff and go down by 39 points. The Reds have failed to beat the Waratahs since 2013 which includes 7 straight losses, the Wolf expect the Waratahs to be far too good at home and cover the 8.5 points with ease.
Best Bet: Waratahs -9.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Waratahs 13+ ($2.30)

Sharks vs Bulls (1:15am Sunday 15th April)
The Last fixture of the round is an all South African affair between the Sharks and the Bulls. The Sharks were very unlucky last week to be beaten by the Hurricanes, having gone down in extra time by a point. They showed glimpses of why they are a team to be feared by outplaying the Hurricanes across the park. The Bulls ended their 4 match losing streak with a strong win against the Stormers. They possess a good record against the Sharks, but with the way the Sharks are playing it’s hard to go past them at home. The Wolf expects a close match, but the Sharks to come out on top.
Best Bet: Sharks -5.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Sharks 1-12 ($2.70)
