Round 3 Preview and Tips

Blues v Chiefs – (Fri 5:35pm)
A cracking encounter between the Blues and Chiefs on Friday evening and the Wolf sees this game representing serious value. Last season the two teams played out a tough draw, however the Chiefs have a dominant record against the Blues winning the last 11 games previous to last season’s draw. Both teams are coming of NZ Derby loses last week at the hands of the Highlanders and Crusaders making this game a near must win. The Chiefs threw two late intercepts against the Crusaders last week making the 45-23 loss seem rather flattering for the Crusaders. They were ahead in the 60th minute of the game playing a grinding style of Rugby which the Wolf feels the Blues will not cope well with this week.  Despite this, the Blues have been installed 2.5 point favourites which the Wolf does not agree with and sees plenty of value in the Chiefs getting their first win of the season.
Best Bet: Chiefs +2.5 ($1.95)
Value Bet: Chiefs 13+ ($5.75)

Reds v Brumbies – (Fri 8:00pm)
All Australian affair for the second game on Friday evening between the Reds and Brumbies. The Reds come off a big defeat at the hands of the resurgent Rebels, whilst the Brumbies grinded out a tough win against the Sunwolves. From a betting point of view this game looks to be a tough proposition but having seen the Reds game last week the Wolf can’t see them improving too much in a 6 days to trouble a Brumbies side with potential.  Expect the Brumbies to tough out a low scoring affair and start the season 2-0.
Best Bet: Brumbies 1-12 ($2.50)
Value Bet: HT/NT – Reds/Brumbies ($6.50)

Sunwolves v Rebels – (Sat 3:15pm)
The Sunwolves put in a great performance last week, going down narrowly to the Brumbies at home. They look to have improved on 2017 and will upset teams this season. Unfortunately for the Sunwolves, the Rebels put in an impressive effort last week touching up the Reds and showed their intentions for 2018. Will Genia looks to have taken his game to a new level controlling the game brilliantly from scrumhalf and providing the Rebels with a great facilitator to both the backs and forwards. The Rebels will be out to make it 2/2 this week and the Wolf expects them to be far superior to the Sunwolves and stamp down their authority as a major player in the Australian Conference.
Best Bet: Rebels -7.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Rebels 13+ ($2.40)

Crusaders vs Stormers – (Sat 5:35pm)
The Crusaders looked dominant last week with a big win over the Chiefs. They host the Stormers this week who were a tad unlucky last week against the Waratahs going down by 7 in a tight encounter. The Stormers look to have adapted an uncompromising style of play boasting an aggressive forward pack and a kicking fly half. This week the Wolf thinks they will struggle against an impressive Crusaders outfit who have covered the line 13 times out of the last 17 as favourites.
Best Bet: Crusaders -17.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Crusaders 30+ ($3.50)

Sharks v Waratahs – (Sun 12:05am)
The Sharks come of a bye last week, having gone down narrowly to the Lions in Week 1. The Waratahs start off their tour of South Africa after a tough win against the Stormers last week. The Sharks will be looking to impose their large forward pack onto the Waratahs which should mean they adopt a ‘tight’ style of play in what should be a gritty affair with lots of kicking. The Sharks have won 5 of 7 as home favourites and the Wolf expects them to scrape home in this one. The Waratahs will be willing and a tough opposition for the Sharks and the game is a close one to call.
Best Bet: Waratahs +6.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Sharks 1-12 ($3.75)

Bulls v Lions – (Sun 2:15am)
The Bulls started the season with an incredible 2 point win over this seasons favourites the Hurricanes as 13 point underdogs. Potentially setting them up as this seasons big improvers. The Lions beat the Jaguares convincingly, moving to 2-0 for the season. The early money has seen the line move from 10.5 to 8.5 with the punters liking the Bulls to cover. Unfortunately for them, the Wolf is very happy with the line move as he really likes the Lions in this one. The Lions have won their past 5 games as away favourites and sees them comfortably winning this one.
Best Bet: Lions -9.5 Line ($1.95)
Value Bet: Lions by 30+ ($5.50)

Jaguares v Hurricanes – (Sun 8:40am)
The Jaguares start the season with 2 Losses, and it doesn’t get much easier hosting the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes come off a shock Loss to the Bulls last week and will be looking at getting their season back on the right track immediately. It’s impossible to back the Hurricanes with confidence this week having seen their efforts last week, although expect their class to shine through in this one. The Jags play their first game in front of a pumped up home crowd and expect them to be in it for most of the way but ultimately go down in a tight affair.
Best Bet: Jaguares +13.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Jaguares 1-12 ($7.00)
