Super Rugby Round 10

The Blues and Highlanders kick things off in Round 10 on Friday evening in Auckland. Other matches of note for the round are the Australian conference leaders the Waratahs taking on the South African conference leaders the Lions and the Wolf likes the current line set in the Bulls vs Rebels taking place on Saturday evening.

Round 10 Preview and Tips

Blues vs Highlanders (5:35pm Friday 20th April)
The Highlanders come off an impressive victory last week against the improving Brumbies, whilst the Blues snapped a three game losing streak defeating the Sunwolves in Tokyo. The Highlanders start this clash 6.5 point favourites and the Wolf feels this isn’t enough. The two teams met earlier in the season where the highlanders ran out 41-31 point winners playing nowhere the level they are currently playing at. They have won the last 3 games between the two teams and the Wolf sees them being far too good for a disappointing Blues side which has failed to measure up all season.
Best Bet: Highlanders -6.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Highlanders 13+ ($2.50)

Waratahs vs Lions (7:45pm Friday 20th April)
The Waratahs have firmly cemented themselves as the best team in the Australian conference seeing off the reds with ease last week. They are playing a brand of rugby which is exciting to watch and they have a lot of points in them when they are firing on all cylinders. The Lions have secured top spot in the SA conference and will look to get their road trip off to a winning start on Friday evening having been given confidence after crushing the Stormers last week. The Lions have done well in Australia, winning all 3 games played there last season However, the Lions have only won 1/3 as underdogs in Australia. The Wolf sees the Waratahs taking this game comfortably and adding to their home unbeaten record in a high scoring affair.
Best Bet: Waratahs -1.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Waratahs 13+ ($4.40)

Crusaders vs Sunwolves (5:35pm Saturday 21st April)
The Sunwolves travel to Christchurch to take on the Crusaders in maybe the most one-sided fixture of the season. The Line has been set at 38.5 which the wolf feels isn’t enough – this could well end up being a cricket score! The Sunwolves did turn up last week against the Blues staying in the contest for the majority of the game to be outclassed late in the game. The Crusaders present a different beast and simply put, they should win this and win it very easily.
Best Bet: Crusaders -38.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Crusaders -49.5 ($2.90)

Reds vs Chiefs (7:45pm Saturday 21st April)
The Reds play host to the high flying Chiefs on Saturday evening in an interesting affair. The Reds have looked likely at times but there playing style is to grind teams down and limit points. This simply will not work against the Chiefs who like to throw the ball around and score points. The Chiefs 5 game winning streak was snapped last week against the competition favourites the Hurricanes and they will be looking to get back into the win column this week against a lower ranked Reds side. The Chiefs have won the last two fixtures between the teams by an average of 37 points and it looks to be heading in that direction for this one. The Chiefs should win and cover in this one.
Best Bet: Chiefs -12.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Chiefs 30+ ($4.00)

Bulls vs Rebels (11:05pm Saturday 21st April)
The Bulls are this year’s sleeper team, when they put it together they have been unstoppable in recent weeks. Their most impressive win of the season came last week when they demolished the Sharks away in Durban 40-10. The Rebels lost last week and look to be going through a bit of dip in form over the past few weeks. This is their biggest test to date and if the Waratahs win they will nearly need to win this to stay in touch with the playoffs. The Rebels are yet to win in SA but this is a different Rebels side then years previous. The Wolf feels the market has overreacted with the Bulls win last week and the Rebels loss to the Jaguares. Taking the Rebels +10.5 should be enough to get the collect here and I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Rebels managed to win this in a close one.
Best Bet: Rebels +10.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Rebels WIN ($3.70)

Sharks vs Stormers (1:15am Sunday 22nd April)
The Sharks were in decent form up until last week where they suffered a defeat at the hands of the Bulls. Before this they had beaten the Blues and were narrowly beaten by the Hurricanes in NZ. The Stormers come off the bye week and were simply outclassed the week previous by a Lions side who finally hit their straps. The stat which sticks out the most in this one is the Stormers are 3-0 at home but 0-5 on the road. And for this reason the Wolf will be taking the Sharks to win this one and recapture their form they had on the road in NZ.
Best Bet: Sharks WIN ($1.70)
Value Bet Sharks 13+ ($3.90)

Brumbies vs Jagaures (4:05pm Sunday 22nd April)
The Brumbies were smashed last week by the highlanders which continues the Australian teams run against NZ teams to 34 games without a win. Whilst the Jaguares look to have hit form rolling an in-form Rebels team last week and looking great whilst doing so. The Jaguares have a perfect 3-0 record in Australia and the Wolf sniffs an upset coming this week. The game itself could make for dismal viewing but the Wolf see the Jaguares +5.5 as serious value and expects the game to be very close.
Best Bet: Jaguares +5.5 ($1.90)
Value Bet: Jaguares 1-12 ($3.35)
