Wolf’s Racing Guide – Saturday, 13 January

Wolf’s Best

Ef Troop (Gold Coast Race 8, No. 2)

Ef Troop demoralised his rivals last start in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes and The Wolf is predicting a similar performance from him here.

He flew out to lead that day at Doomben and from there ended up winning by over five lengths in a very impressive manner.

He’s drawn wide here which appears to be a concern, but this son of Spirit Of Boom has all the gate speed necessary to be able to cross, lead and prove very hard to catch – just as Houtzen did last year from the wide draw.

Recommended Bet: Ef Troop to WIN.

Howard Be Thy Name (Flemington Race 2, No. 1)

Howard Be Thy Name is fourth up here and The Wolf is confident that he has reached peak fitness and is ready to win.

Last time out he placed over 1700m at Warrnambool where he put in a huge performance to finish only half a length behind Artie’s Shore; who always runs well over 1700m at The ‘Bool having won over the course and distance three times.

Howard Be Thy Name is 1/1 over 2000m and having had the three pipe openers in preparation The Wolf is expecting he’ll be going home the winner.

Recommended Bet: Howard Be Thy Name to WIN.

Richard Of Yorke (Randwick Race 3, No. 2)

Richard Of Yorke cost himself the race last start by laying in throughout the race and had he not done that he arguably would have won.

Upon straightening for home he continued to shift to the inside whereby the rider Tye Angland had difficulty straightening him, however after improving and switching to the right hand the gelding made improvement on the leader Cordero and nearly could have won.

Mathew Cahill makes the trek up from Southern New South Wales which is a significant booking; as his last two rides for Chris Waller have produced one win and one placing, the win coming in the Group 3 Summer Cup aboard Montauk.

The key booking of Cahill indicates to The Wolf that Richard Of Yorke is ready to win and he is confident that he’ll be turning the tables on Cordero.

Recommended Bet: Richard Of Yorke to WIN.

Confidence Level:

Nonpareil (Randwick Race 5, No. 6)

Nonpareil will have taken plenty of benefit from her first up run and looks very well placed to win here second up from a spell.

She put in an even effort when resuming last start and with second up stats of 3: 0-0-3 she looks the one to beat here.

The form out of her last race is strong; as Burradoo who she finished alongside has since come out and won.

Expect Glyn Schofield to camp behind the speed before taking off in the straight to give chase to the leaders.

Recommended Bet: Nonpareil to WIN.

Confidence Level:

Sugar Bella (Randwick Race 8, No. 5)

Sugar Bella was ultra impressive last start at Randwick winning by over two lengths in a canter and The Wolf is expecting her to do the same again here.

The form around her is strong, as she beat Duchess Pedrille first up; who since franked the form by winning at Canterbury.

From the draw Bullock should look to sit her midfield with cover before peeling out in the straight to give chase.

Recommended Bet: Sugar Bella to WIN.

Confidence Level:

Moonlover (Flemington Race 9, No. 5)

Moonlover has been a very consistent mare of late having placed in five of her last six career starts and winning at the other.

She’s regularly found one better but The Wolf is keen to stick with her here as she finds herself placed in another very winnable race.

Her form behind Widgee Turf reads very well for this and if Ethan Brown can find an early lead upon turning for home she’ll give them something to run down.

Recommended Bet: Moonlover to WIN.

Bolters

Oak Door (Gold Coast Race 6, No. 9)

Oak Door absolutely loves the 1400m and at $17.00/$5.00 represents great each way value.

He’s 3/4 over 1400m and his first up run at Caulfield gave every indication to The Wolf that he is ready to win second up.

He’ll need to take a sit behind the leaders as there is far too much speed on up front, but if he can get a trail in behind them he’ll get every chance turning for home.

He’s won second up prior to this and The Wolf is confident he’ll be ready to fire for this.

Recommended Bet: Oak Door EACH WAY.

Confidence Level:

Bel Sonic (Gold Coast Race 7, No. 6)

Bel Sonic put in an eye-catching win last start at Moonee Valley when circling the field and The Wolf is keen to follow him up to the Gold Coast.

He came from last that day to win the VOBIS Gold Carat against a reasonably strong field of potential city class horses.

The second placegetter out of his last start win in Aeecee Tong De who had previously won at Canterbury and the third placegetter out of that race in Teleplay; who has since franked that form by placing at Caulfield.

The form around him is strong and whilst the favourite Pierata will be hard to beat, Bel Sonic represents great each way value at the $15.00/$4.00 and The Wolf is keen to be on him at the price.

Recommended Bet: Bel Sonic EACH WAY.
