Majority of the money came in for the ALP, who dropped from $6.00 to $5.50 in betting, despite sitting equal with the Coalition in Newspoll’s two party-preferred poll released by The Australian today.
William Hill also slashed the odds of an October 22nd election from $7 to $4.50, although a pre-August 6th date remains the $3.25 favourite with speculation lingering over the PM’s possible plans for a double-dissolution election.
“The political punters steamed into the ALP following this morning’s Newspoll results and we now have the ALP taking more than double the amount of bets than the Coalition to win the next election,” said William Hill’s Tim Ashworth.
“In fact, a Labor win would be a considerable loss for us already and we still don’t even know if, or when, Malcolm will pull the trigger and call his maiden election.”
