Norths Devils v Mackay Cutters
It’s been a disappointing season for the Cutters but they’ve shown plenty of fight of late, winning two of their last three with the loss a two-point defeat by the Blackhawks. Cutters centre Johnny Faletagoa’i was a standout in the Cutters win over Tweed last week, while backrower Andrew Davey crossed for a double. The Devils won this corresponding clash 32-16 in Round 6 and broke a five-match losing streak with their 38-26 win over Wynnum Manly last week. It’s hard to trust either side, but the home ground advantage could prove the difference here.
Ipswich Jets v Redcliffe Dolphins
The Jets find themselves three points outside of the Top 6 and this is a must-win if they’re any hope of making the finals and defending their title. They were gallant in defeat against PNG in Round 21 and come off the bye in preparation for this. Meanwhile, the Dolphins are high-flying and moved into top spot with their 28-22 win over the Tigers last week. They’re on a five-game winning streak and won this clash 38-12 back in Round 6. The Dolphins will get the cash, but The Wolf is tipping the home side to keep it tight.
Townsville Blackhawks v PNG Hunters
It’s the match of the round with the fourth-placed Townsville Blackhawks hosting the third-placed Hunters. These sides played out a thriller in Round 6 with the Hunters prevailing 11-10. The Hunters are unbeaten at home this season, but struggle when they hit the road. They’ve lost five of their last six away matches, while the Blackhawks will be desperate to leapfrog the Hunters into third and make amends for the loss earlier in the season. The Wolf can’t trust the Hunters away from the National Football Stadium.
Sunshine Coast Falcons v CQ Capras
The Capras suffered a heart-breaking loss to the Magpies in Round 22 and The Wolf is expecting a flat performance when they take on the Falcons. Capras fullback Reece Baker scored one of the best team tries you will ever see, but was let down by goalkicker and halfback Matt Minto who hit the post with the conversion to hand the Magpies the win. The Falcons will be up for this off the back of last week’s bye and need to keep winning to keep the chasers at bay outside the Top 6. Craig Ingebrigtsen’s men were victorious over the Capras 38-22 earlier in the season and The Wolf is expecting a similar margin again.
Tweed Heads Seagulls v Northern Pride
The Northern Pride might be out of finals contention, but their win against the Bears and narrow loss to the Blackhawks over the past fortnight shows what they are capable of when they’re on their game. The Pride put a cricket score on Tweed last time they met, running out 48-0 winners and should get the victory again over Tweed who are currently on a three-game losing streak including last week’s 30-10 loss the cellar-dwelling Cutters.
Wynnum Manly Seagulls v Easts Tigers
The Seagulls are three points outside the Top 6 after last week’s disappointing 38-26 loss to the Devils, and must beat the Tigers if they are any hope of playing finals football this season. Meanwhile, the Tigers pushed first-placed Redcliffe all of the way last week and it’s a must-win for them as well, currently sitting in fifth spot. Scott Sipple’s men have three losses and a draw in their last four matches. but if they reproduce last week’s effort against the Dolphins, they should get the cash over the Seagulls. They also got the job done 30-18 when these sides met in Round 6 earlier in the season. Won’t be more than a converted try in this one.
