Behind The Curtains: Round 25
All the gossip and rumours from every NRL club.
James Roberts may have escaped immediate sanction at the hands of the Broncos but the club is seemingly prepared to move him on. Roberts is currently in negotiations with the Sea Eagles about a shift to Manly.
Jordan Kahu is set to shift from Brisbane to Canberra next year. Wayne Bennett has had enough of his underperforming outside backs and has told Kahu he is free to move on.
Luciano Leilua is set to join the Bulldogs for the 2017 season. Leilua has looked strong since debuting against the Broncos late in the season for the Dragons.
Cronulla backrower Luke Lewis is on the verge of signing a new one-year deal with the club. Lewis was all but gone to South Sydney but is set for one more season in The Shire.
Gold Coast Titans
Nene MacDonald is the first player to be squeezed out of the Titans for next season with the quality three-quarter on his way to the Dragons.
Manly Sea Eagles
Manly have supposedly offered Matt Gillett a huge offer to join the Sea Eagles but he is unlikely to make the move after receiving some insights into the club’s culture. The Broncos or Titans remain his most likely options.
Bronco Kodi Nikorima is set to replace Blake Green in the halves at Melbourne for 2017. He is an astute signing who is set for a big boost to his career.
Korbin Sims is set to be released for the 2017 season to open up some salary cap room. Sims is likely to join Cronulla though St George Illawarra is a real possibility.
New Zealand Warriors
New Zealand have jumped into the front-running role to land Kieran Foran. Foran is looking for a fresh start after a torturous season on and off the paddock.
North Queensland Cowboys
There are concerns Matt Scott’s back injury is more serious than is being let on. Scott was a late out against the Warriors and could miss the all-important clash with the Bulldogs at Belmore on Thursday.
The Eels may look at signing Jamal Idris for 2017. Idris is a cheap buy and though he has plenty of baggage does offer plenty of upside at a low rate.
Despite a great run of form Tyrone Peachey is still looking for a way out of Penrith. Peachey and coach Anthony Griffin don’t get on.
St George Illawarra Dragons
The 42-6 loss to rivals the Sydney Roosters has sealed Paul McGregor’s fate. He will not be in charge of the Dragons in 2017 with Ivan Cleary his most likely replacement.
South Sydney Rabbitohs
South Sydney are looking at signing former Warriors fullback Kevin Locke. The troubled talent has not been seen in the NRL since 2014.
Blake Ferguson could be the club’s long-term No.1 with the Roosters looking much better with him at the back and Latrell Mitchell on the wing.
The Wests Tigers have identified Daniel Mortimer as a target for 2017. Mortimer would serve as a backup to young halves Moses and Brooks and likely hooker Jacob Liddle.
