UFC 208 Preview & Tips
Holly Holm takes on Germaine de Randamie, with the inaugural UFC Women’s Featherweight Title on the line, in the headline bout for UFC 208 in Brooklyn, New York. The UFC had initially planned for Christiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino to headline the division, but after turning down the initial title fight, she has gone on to fail a drug test, throwing everything up in the air. The result? Holly Holm, coming off two losses in a row, taking on a relative unknown fighter to the masses in Germaine de Randamie.
UFC Women’S Featherweight Championship
Holly Holm v Germaine de Randamie
Whilst not the fight that people would want to headline a Pay Per View event, this fight definitely has the ingredients to make an interesting fight. I don’t expect to see many takedowns, with Holm having a boxing background and de Randamie being an undefeated kickboxer before making the change to MMA. I can’t see de Randamie falling into the trap of chasing Holm around like Rousey did before her epic KO, and can see her controlling the fight and taking this one by decision.
Best: de Randamie WIN ($1.74)
Value: de Randamie by decision ($3.50)
Anderson Silva v Derek Brunson – Middleweight
It is clear that Anderson Silva is not the fighter he once was. Winless in his last five trips to the octagon, he takes on another fighter coming off a loss against Aussie Robert Whittaker, in Derek Brunson. Whilst Brunson is definitely vulnerable to being hit, especially against a striker of Silva’s quality, I can see the younger Brunson being able to use his grappling skills to do enough to get the decision.
Best: Brunson WIN ($1.65)
Value: Brunson by decision ($3.25)
Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Sousa v Tim Boetsch – Middleweight
‘Jacare’ just needs to get a win here and he would be a short price to get the next Middleweight title shot once Bisping and Romero fight it out for the strap. He comes in with short odds, and justifiably so, with this fight seemingly just an attempt to keep busy before the title shot comes his way.
Best: Sousa by Submission ($1.65)
Glover Teixeira v Jared Cannonier – Light Heavyweights
A big step up in class here for Cannonier, although after losing his last fight in 13 seconds to Rumble Johnson, and at 37 years of age, we may have seen the best of Glover Teixeira. Cannonier is looking to make the push for a Top 5 ranking, and is definitely capable of pulling off the upset.
Best: Cannonier WIN ($2.70)
Value: Cannonier by decision ($9.00)
Dustin Poirier v Jim Miller – Lightweights
Two fighters with a combined 62 fights clash in the opening fight on the main card. Miller is a great grappler, and he has the edge in that department, whilst Poirier definitely holds the striking advantage. Expect Poirier to push the pace, and get the result in a fight that definitely has the potential to win ‘Fight of the Night’ honours.
Best: Poirier by Knockout ($2.40)
