UFC 211 Preview & Tips
We head to Dallas, Texas for UFC 211 with multiple titles on the line. Miocic and Dos Santos meet for a second time with the latter seeking another win over the American – only this time it would mean reclaiming the heavyweight crown which he first won back in 2011. Fan favourites Eddie Alvarez and Frankie Edgar with also appear in the octagon while Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade battle it out for the women’s strawweight title. It’s sure to be the best UFC in 2017!
Eddie Alvarez v Dustin Poirier
Alvarez has not fought since his embarrassing loss to McGregor and it remains to be seen how he returns from that. Case in point – Alvarez claimed the title against Rafael Dos Sanios and the Brazilian has never been the same since. The former lightweight champ was crushed by Tony Ferguson and hasn’t returned to the ring since. Let’s not even touch on Ronda Rousey who has made the most dramatic fall in world sport! That being said Poirier’s record hardly jumps off the page and outside of Connor’s left hand Alvarez has been a driving force in this weight division. Both men have fallen victim to Connor McGregor but it is hard to look past the strength of Alvarez. A born brawler he will be on the front foot for most of the fight and will land strikes at will. The Wolf cannot see this one going to the ground which is good news for Alzarez. Only one of Priorer’s last 4 losses have gone the distance and The Wolf expects Eddie to defy the critics and return with a crushing win.
Best: Alvarez WIN ($2.00)
Value: Alvarez By KO ($3.50)
Frankie Edgar v Yair Rodriguez
The Wolf is declaring his boy Frankie Edgar. He would welcome him into The Wolfpack any day of the week! Frankie has only ever lost to top notch opposition. His only losses in almost a decade are to Maynard, Benson Henderson and Aldo. His two losses to Henderson were by decision, he beat Maynard in a rematch and Aldo is simply his kryptonite. Edgar has never been knocked out and Rodriguez isn’t about to change that. Rodriguez is out of his depth here. He may be undefeated in the UFC but he has fought several men who are either on the decline or ranked outside the top 10 in their respective divisions. Both men have defeated BJ Penn but the key difference is that Edgar beat him in his prime. The Wolf cannot see Rodriguez matching it with Edgar who will dominate from the moment they touch gloves.
Best: Edgar WIN ($1.74)
Value: Edgar By Decision ($2.25)
Demian Maia v Jorge Masvidal
Maia is one of the form fighters in the UFC and he continues demand respect from his peers – something he feels that he has not been getting. He is on a 6 fight win streak and The Wolf is declaring him as the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter in the UFC. The bookies are also giving him little respect and have installed him as the slight outsider for this bout. If this goes do the ground it will be over in the blink of an eye according to The Wolf. Masvidal will be fully aware of this and the veteran has been working tirelessly on his takedown defence. That being said, he faces a major problem… Maia has taken his opponents to the ground at will! Every fighter has known what they need to do against Maia but they have been unable to prevent him from showcasing his jiu-jitsu talents. He is on a different level and The Wolf is expecting the name ‘Maia’ to be one that we hear a lot more over the next 24 months!
Best: Maia WIN ($2.00)
Value: Maia By Submission ($3.00)
Joanna Jedrzejczyk v Jessica Andrade
Joanna paying more than $1.50!!! Give me more says The Wolf who has the strawweight champion will successfully defend her title for a 5th time. He is shocked to see the price on offer. Andrade may have won her three fights since dropping down from bantamweight but she is on a very short turn around of just 3 months. Most fighters have camps that go for 3 months so taking this fight on such short notice is definitely a disadvantage. Joanna has a very strong kickboxing and muay thai background and is relentless in the pursuit of her opponent. She attacks with punch combinations before finishing them off with vicious kicks. This is Andrade’s first attempt to win the straweight title and The Wolf is expecting the occasion to get to her. One mistake and Joanna will punish her. Andrade doesn’t have the size advantage one would expect for a fighter dropping down two weight divisions and the height and reach advantage held by Joanna will make all the difference in what is sure to be a slugfest. Will not go the distance!
Best: Jerdzejczyk WIN ($1.55)
Value: Goes The Distance – NO ($2.15)
Stipe Miocic v Junior Dos Santos
Stipe is coming off a 4 fight win streak and done so in convincing fashion. He only has two losses on his record, one very early in his career and the other to Dos Santos – this is his opportunity to set the record straight! He has been on some run. Knocked out Hunt and Arlovski before knocking out Werdum to claim the title and defending it in impressive fashion against Overeem. Overeem made light work of Dos Santos but was crushed by Miocic once the American was able to get on top. Dos Santos is not the fighter he once was and questions continue to be asked regarding his ability to regain the status as on of the most feared heavyweights. He has always been regarded as a knockout specialist but despite dominating Rothwell he failed to knock him out. We have seen Miocic take the best blows from his opponents and remain on his two feet and his ability to turn defence into offence in second to none. As always, all it takes is one punch at this weight level but The Wolf has concerns over Dos Santos ability the land the killer blow. Miocic to successfully defend the heavyweight championship.
Best: Miocic WIN ($1.74)
Value: Miocic By KO ($2.50)
