Wolf’s Racing Guide – Wednesday, 9 May

The Wolf is off to Sandown & Warwick Farm for his Wednesday Racing Guide! The Wolf is very keen on King’s Authority, who looks a class above this field at Sandown..

Wolf’s Best

King’s Authority (Sandown Race 2, No. 1)

King’s Authority brings Merchant Navy form to this and if he can perform at that level here he’ll prove very hard to get past. He’s city placed on two occasions and also boasts a win at Flemington; albeit in 2016. He’s placed in a trial leading into this and has given every indication to The Wolf that he is ready to fire first up from a lengthy spell. This is a much weaker field compared to what he has faced previously and The Wolf is expecting him to kick off his 2018 campaign with a win.
Recommended Price: $2.15

Circuit Bets

Lycurgus (Sandown Race 1, No. 7)

Lycurgus is a Listed winner over 2400m and if he translates that form to this race he’ll be winning. This horse inhales the 2400m, having placed twice over the distance and winning once – from four attempts. His best run last prep saw him place behind Vassal over 2400m; which is a very good form reference for this as Vassal has since gone on to win the Listed Christmas Cup at Randwick. Lycurgus is third up into this and with Daniel Moor aboard should prove hard to beat.
Recommended Price: $3.30

Misery (Warwick Farm Race 6, No. 1)

Misery is 2/2 when second up and finds himself a very winnable race to extend that record to 3/3. He was a touch unlucky first up at Randwick, where he was checked near the 600m which led to him being eased back through the field from there. He’ll sit just behind the speed in this and with Kerrin McEvoy aboard he should prove tough to catch.
Recommended Price: WIN

Removal (Sandown Race 7, No. 4)

Removal is 2/2 when running third up and The Wolf is supremely confident this record will remain in tact here. He’s nearing a win having run very well in two runs back this prep including a last start placing at Morphettville in Benchmark 82 grade. This is a sharp drop in grade and with luck should prove very tough to beat. Damian Lane remains on board and with clear space in the straight he should be going home the winner.
Recommended Price: $6.00

Sparky Lad (Warwick Farm Race 7, No. 6)

Sparky Lad has won previously when third up and The Wolf is confident lightning can strike twice here. He’s been fairly ordinary in two runs back this prep, finishing eighth and second last, but he has since been sent back to the trials where he put in an eye-catching fifth at Canterbury. He gets an excellent chance to win here and The Wolf is confident he will be doing exactly that.
Recommended Price: $8.00

Grand Challenge (Warwick Farm Race 3, No. 6)

Grand Challenge has placed in a Listed race before and if he runs up to that here he’ll prove tough to catch. That was an excellent run that day at Moonee Valley which saw him finish ahead of Seabrook; who has subsequently won the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick. He’s trialled well leading into this and at the price looks an outstanding each way bet.
Recommended Price: $15/$4
