Wolf’s Racing Guide – Thursday, 14 June

The Wolf is keen to kick things off early on Thursday with bets in the two hurdles, the first and second races from Sale.

Wolf’s Best

Glorious Sinndar (Sale Race 2, No.2)

Glorious Sinndar has a perfect record over obstacles, having won twice from two career starts in 2016. Obviously, he has had some issues since then as he had to miss the 2017 season, but the fact that master trainer Darren Weir has taken so much time with him speaks volumes for his ability. His last flat run was a fast closing fourth in a 2400m race in Adelaide, and he has since trialled well. If he brings his best form, he will win.

Circuit Bets

Sir Lopez (Sale Race 1, No.5)

This is a particularly strong maiden hurdle but Sir Lopez is a very nice horse. Trainer Patrick Payne has been very patient with him, giving him one start over obstacles for a fourth placing last year, with this being his first attempt at it this season. Steven Pateman takes the ride and with the champion jockey seemingly scaling back his riding commitments owing to training in his own right, that is a very positive lead.

Pioneertown (Gosford Race 3, No.1)

A UK import for the Hayes-Dabernig team, Pioneertown has had two starts in Australia for a well beaten eighth at Cranbourne, followed by a much improved second placing at Kembla last start. Exactly what sparked the dramatic improvement isn’t quite certain, but a continuation of that upward trajectory should see him get the money here. A dual winner over 2500m in the UK, he will relish the 2600m today.

Recommended Price: $2.50

Strome (Gosford Race 8, No.1)

Like Douglas MacArthur famously wrote, there is no substitute for victory and The Wolf loves backing horses with a will to win. Having tasted success at four of his last five starts, Strome certainly has that. The wide draw, step up in trip and big weight are challenges but they are there to be overcome. Strome should be a city horse in time and he can continue with his winning sequence here.

Walkaboutcreek (Port Augusta Race 3, No.8)

Walkaboutcreek’s lifetime record of two wins from thirty starts doesn’t inspire much confidence but it is worth noting that both of those wins came from just five appearances on the Port Augusta dirt. Has last couple of runs on grass have been pretty handy suggesting that he should be primed to find his best form today. The good draw is a significant help as well.
