Wolf’s Sunday Racing Guide – Sunday, 24 June

The Wolf his cast his eye over the fields for Sunday and has singled out a few best bets at Rockhampton, Coonamble & Hobart!

Wolf’s Best

Devils Pinch (Rockhampton Race 4, No. 7)

Devils Pinch has been racing very consistently since arriving in Queensland and looks well placed in this to breakthrough for much-deserved win. He placed third last start behind Iron George over 1210m and should be improved off that run back to 1100m. He’s drawn well where he maps to sit inside and from there can peel out and let down nicely in the straight.

Circuit Bets

Van Winkel (Rockhampton Race 5, No. 4)

Van Winkel has taken on much tougher horses than this and off his last start run he looks ready to win. He’s placed second on five occasions and although he struggles to find the line first, he’s still racing consistently and off those five seconds must be respected. He races well second up and should be hard to beat in this.

Huey (Coonamble Race 1, No. 1)

Huey has placed second in his last two starts and if has continued to improve off those he’ll go close here. Greg Ryan nearly got him to victory last start and if he rides him the same here he should be going home the winner. He’s drawn well and shapes as the hardest to beat.

A Magic Zariz (Coonamble Race 7, No. 2)

A Magic Zariz has run in much tougher races than this and the fact he is entering this race first up off no trials hints to The Wolf that he is ready to run regardless. Trained on track by Cecil Hodgson this galloper has won an impressive seven from 18 and with Greg Ryan engaged should be tough to beat here. There is little depth outside of the favourite (I’m Imogen) in this and if A Magic Zariz finds his best he’ll be hard to catch.

By The Pound (Hobart Race 5, No. 1)

By The Pound has placed second in his last four and off those run is most-deserving of a win. The Wolf is confident he can receive it here, he’s drawn well and with Ismail Toker aboard shapes as the one to beat. He’s drawn well for this in barrier two where he should find a soft lead and play catch me if you can from there.
