Wolf’s Hong Kong Racing Guide – Wednesday, 11 July

The Wolf is off to Happy Valley in Hong Kong for their second last race meeting of the season, with Sha Tin on Sunday set to close the curtains on the 2017/18 season. Jockeys Joao Moreira and Zac Purton will be going toe to toe in the race for the Jockey’s Premiership with Purton currently ahead of Moreira by only three wins.

Can Joao Moreira close the gap at Happy Valley and win one last Jockey’s Premiership before he relocates to Japan?

Wolf’s Best

Lamarosa (Happy Valley Race 3, No. 1)

Lamarosa ran an improved race last start and should be much improved for this dropping back to 1000m. Zac Purton takes the reins again on this galloper and from the draw he maps to get a soft run on the speed throughout. He’ll relish the conditions of this race and if he finds the rail early he’ll be able to take the shortest route home.

Circuit Bets

Letsgofree (Happy Valley Race 1, No. 2)

Moreira can draw first blood here on Letsgofree in the race for the Jockey’s Premiership and The Wolf is expecting exactly that from him here. He dropped back to Class 5 last start from Class 4 and ran improved race to finish fifth, beaten by two lengths. He did his best work late that day and with an extra 250m on offer here he is expected find himself in the finish. He doesn’t often finish in first place but he gets the conditions to suit here and he should prove tough to catch.

Sichuan Boss (Happy Valley Race 4, No. 2)

Sichuan Boss has placed in his last three runs and deserves another chance of these. He gets Moreira on again and from the inside draw is expected to settle on the speed, where he’ll put himself in the race and get every chance. He gets the conditions to suit in this race and The Wolf is confident that his consistency will finally be rewarded with a win here.

Sky Melody (Happy Valley Race 5, No. 4)

Sky Melody was oh-so-close to finally breaking through for his first win last start and if he’s continued to improve off that he can make his presence felt here. He closed well that day to finish a length off the winner and with a more forward ride in this he is expected to be in the finish again. Zac Purton takes the reins from the inside draw and The Wolf is expecting him to prove very hard to beat, especially over 1800m.

Nice Fandango (Happy Valley Race 6, No. 12)

Nice Fandango can pinch this race and The Wolf is confident that him and Chad Schofield will do exactly that. He’s drawn well for a mad leader where he is expected to find the front and if he is able to dictate terms to suit himself he’ll go home the winner. His last two starts have been up the straight where he has performed exceptionally to finish third on both occasions. He gets in well at the weights once again as a very low-rating Class 3 galloper and if he finds the front he’ll give them something to run down.
