Horse Racing Tips – Caulfield
24 February 2018
The Wolf’s racing tips for Caulfield. His best bet is
I Did It Again (Caulfield Race 3, No. 6).
Race 1: 9. Bedford
BEDFORD overcame a slow tempo and a very awkward position in running to win last time. Very good effort and he was blistering around here the start prior, winning by a space and running fast time.
Race 2: 1. Astoria
ASTORIA was very good in the Autumn Stakes first up and that looks the key lead up. Wasn't much between him and MR SO AND SO there, and there may not be a lot between them again in this, but lean the way of Astoria who showed smart form in the spring and could be up to the top level now. Think he can win this and give himself some chance in the Australian Guineas next time.
Race 3: 6. I Did It Again
I DID IT AGAIN has won over this course and distance previously in his career and The Wolf is expecting him to repeat that win here. Last start he finished a length behind Cliff’s Edge over this course and distance and if he’s returned to that level here he’ll take beating. Damien Oliver remains on board which adds confidence and with a positive ride on the speed he should be able to go home the winner.
Race 4: 2. Smart Coupe
SMART COUPE missed the kick last time and she ended up too far back in a race that was controlled on pace. Can be very forgiving. She was very good first up from a break and think that 1400m can suit her now. Gets a chance to roll along on pace and she's hard to stop in that scenario.
Race 5: 7. Samovare
SAMOVARE had a terrific spring and this looks like a nice option for her first up from a break. Think she can run a big race.
Race 6: 10. Mighty Boss
There was astute money around for MIGHTY BOSS first up and he very nearly should have won the race – he copped severe interference and never got a crack at them. He is drawn to get the run of the race with speed (Lord of the Sky and Showtime) coming across from out wide. That should set the race up perfectly and he has enough class to accelerate when he needs to. Hard to beat.
Race 7: 12. Lady Horseowner
LADY HORSEOWNER has won both of her career starts and each time she has given the indication that a step up to 1200m for her grand final would suit. She took a split late between runners last start to win ahead of Crossing The Abbey & Oohood. Nikita Beriman remains aboard which only enhances The Wolf’s confidence; as she has won on her at her only two starts.
Race 8: 6. Fuhryk
FUHRYK comes here off a last start second in the Winterbottom Stakes in Perth which should be of benefit as she won’t have been in the paddock long. Her run in that race was sensational coming from well back, and her spring form was excellent as well, except when she copped a couple of terrible rides. She is drawn to get a lovely midfield run and she has the class required.
Race 9: 2. Gailo Chop
GAILO CHOP was terrific first up in the Carlyon over the mile. Took the softer option than the Orr but it paid off with a strong win and like him with the mile under his belt now. Ran good splits relative to the Orr on the same day.
